: Fuel tank sump Q's

I've decided to get a new tank and put in a drop sump instead of a fuel cell in the trunk. I'm running all stainless braided lines with a BG220 electric pump with BG5000 filter....supply is -10AN and bypass/return is -8AN. The sump and fittings are straight forward, but what about the return line fitting? I know that it needs to be as far away as possible from the supply line to the pump but do I need to have a bung fitting welded in, then have an AN fitting with pipe threads on the bung side OR be able to drill a hole and attach a fitting with a seal when the tank is cut open on the bottom side? Also, what about the original fuel line holes in the tank? Any input would be appreciated..

Mike, I did this on my 71 Buick and just had a pipe fitting (for return line) welded in my stock tank in the upper left corner (ps) of the tank facing forward. I run my lines thru the frame and and the return comes out right at the front of the tank. I used a 90* AN fitting there.

I have the same set-up...my -8AN return line is plumbed into the front of the tank as high as I could get it without hitting the floorpan. All my braided lines are also run in the frame...there was a factory hole where I came out of it and it lined up perfectly for me.

As far as connecting it to the tank I drilled a hole and used a -8 fuel cell bung with rubber gaskets and was done with it. I capped the old supply and return line at the sending unit which I kept in tact for my fuel gauge.

Here's a rough picture of my return line...it heads towards the passenger frame rail and enters it just out of site of the picture.

Thanks for the replies....I was thinking I would do what Bill did and skip welding in the return line bung, and go with a sealed -8AN fuel cell fitting as well. I just need to order the new stuff and get it done now:D
