vigg,
I'm building a 540 right now and I'm using a Comp Cams roller grind similar to yours (11-773-8). I had orginally planned on using a nylon thrust button but had problems finding a timing cover that it would work with. I ended up getting a Cloyes cover that has a built in thrust button that you can adjust without removing anything! I think it's quite handy. Nylon is better in my opinion because there's nothing to frag your engine if the bearings come apart. I would recommend a timing set with a torrington bearing or something like that so you don't chew up the block. As a side note, when I called Comp about this grind they stated it didn't need a bronze distributor gear either which was nice. Anyway, hope this helps a little.
Good luck!
