Some of you may remember hearing something about me being in Dynomax's Power to the Wheels Dyno Tour. This week was the final shootout at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. In the end I found the limits of my turbos (25 psi max, I wanted 30psi) and wasn't brave enough to give it the untested shot of juice. Sanity pervailed and the car survived with a safe tune up. I ended up taking second place with 1455rwhp which was actually down a bit from 1477 in the test session.

All the cars in the competition were on E-85 and the last of the 7 cars still made 1200hp before the head gasket let go. The winner was Brian Anderson's 64 rambler with a twin turbo sbc. It was in Hot Rod a while back but has a totally different induction system now, Twin gt-47 88mm's with a pair of water to airs in the trunk. The car is awsome, you have to see it in person.

Here is a vid of the vette poping the gasket:

There is also pics and vids on Dynomax's site, the finals are not up yet but testing is

That is a ton of power, what size are your turbos? What was the boost when you ran the 9.19 @ 159.4 MPH? I wonder what Anderson's Rambler weighes now and what it is capable of running. I read somewhere it weighed about 3300 when he ran it last year at the PGDs. It's no disgrace to wind up second to that car as he is as serious as a heart attack. Nice numbers.

The turbos are Master Power gt45's. They are just cheapies at $680 each. Looking at doing a new set of headers now and a pair of large frame 88's. The 9.19@159 run was at about 20 psi and with a 1.7x 60ft. The trans brake should fix that problem. I made a few simple changes though recently and it now makes the same 1105hp at 16psi instead of 20psi like before. Now 20psi is around 1275 to the tires. I would think it should run 8's in the spring but its going to be along wait. winter sucks

Brian is running a pair of 88mm gt47's now. He said his goal for the car is to go 200mph in the 1/4. I think its capable of that.

Man that Vette sounded AWESOME. Made me cringe when it blew like it did. I hate seeing that happen. Makes you feel for the guy.

Nice Numbers Jesse, to say the least! Crongrads on the 2nd place visit.

That is an unreal amount of power, congrats!! Was the Rambler the one built by Nelson?

I run a ck performace th400 with a horspower sucking 9".

Jesse Gese didn't think is was going to survive the pulls. The n2o solenoid pulled the fuel away from #'s 1 and 3. It went lean and spit out the gasket. He said the coating from the piston tops is all over the plugs so it may need some internal work also.

The rambler engine was speced by Petty himself at Proline. I guess Brian helps Tim Lynch out at outlaw 10.5 races too. Its nice to have help from the pros.

That article on the rumbler is over a year old. I induction sysem is way different now.

I forgot there was another chevelle in the shootout. It was Mark Gjavnes's teal green '64. It has a 540 with a blow thru f-2. I think it make 1233rwhp. It was in Car Craft a while back, feb 07 I think.

Thats some serius power through these tiny turbos ,)

How well do RWHP correct through a stalling converter?

The chassis dyno simply reads the acceleration of the drums so any converter slippage of wheel spin will just read lower horsepower. I was running a PTC 9.5" converter with a custom 12 blade stator. On the dyno it hit a wall at about 1200-1250 rwhp. The car would make over 1200 with 20 psi and 159mph wheel speed. If I added 2 psi the rwhp would only come up about 40 and the wheel speed would drop about 8mph. This trend got worst until I quit at 25psi. At 25 psi it made a best of 1317rwhp with the 9.5" converter. Converter slippage went from 6.5% @ 20psi to 18% @ 25psi.

I call PTC and talked to them about it and they hooked me up with a 10" pro-mod converter and Lane swore I couldn't push through it. He said " if it will handle 800ci with 5 stages of spray it will handle yours". Well, he was right. I went to sema with the new converter untested. First pull on the dyno with the same tune up and correction factors the car was up 160rwhp just off the converter change. I wanted to start upping the boost then but it turns out the turbos are maxed out at 25psi. I would have liked to seen 30 but it just wouldn't do it.

You should have seen the look on Andy the dyno operators face after the first pull. He asked what I changed and I said "nothing". He then asked it I sprayed it on that pull and I assured him the bottle was still off. We couldn't belive the difference from just a converter change.
