I need to replace the antenna cable on my '70 El Camino. To access the end at the center/base of the windshield do I need to do/remove anything other than the dash pad? Thanks.

You need to remove the wiper arms, and the wide stainless trim across the bottom of the windshield. You'll find 2 screws holding the cable on the outside. Disconnect the windshield from it carefully before removing the screws. You can reach under the dash to unplug the other end from the radio. No need to remove the dash pad.

Tim:

If you're Elky has the hidden wipers it's not necessary to remove the wiper arms. (Don't know about the "standard wipers".) The only thing that you have to remove is the wide stainless steel trim piece that runs across the bottom of your windshield to access the two screws that secure the antenna lead to the cowl. It's not even necessary to remove your dash pad. You should be able to snake the new lead through the hole in the cowl and down under the dash to the radio without too much difficulty.
