I'm having a problem with my car not wanting to pull past 4500 rpm in first gear. At first I thought it might have been the rebuild in the transmission holding it back. The car pulls strong to about 4500rpm in first gear then seems to fall on its face until I shift into second gear then it pulls hard to 5500 rpm where I shift into third gear. I was wondering if this could be a timong issue or a fuel issue? Any help would be well taken.

Thanks in advance for your support.

ummmm i know of 3 things that might be the cause.......a intake built for lower off idle to 4500 or the dist. isnt that responsive past 4500 or the cam isnt building power like the intake past 4500..... i have heard of them all.....but i dont really see the need in shifting past 4500 if its a mildly built  ......my car was mildly when it was together and i never took it past 4500 but i know of nothing of ur car....

With my car if I wind it out in first without opening the secondaries,it will level off at 5000,kick open the secondaries and hang on smile.gif

Over the weekend I started looking at this from a fuel delivery stand point of view. I noticed that my fuel guage would go from 5psi to 0psi in about 1 minute after I shut the car off.Does this mean the stock fuel pump is going bad??? How do you know when you have a fuel delivery problem?? What symptoms would you experience??

Here's a simple/silly test - get on it until it 'rolls over', get out of it for a second, and then get right back in. If it goes past the old rpm, then you do have a fuel issue. If not, then I would look to ignition or valvesprings AFTER I had checked to make sure my carb linkage is allowing WOT and the secondaries are free and working.
