The one that includes the intake, carb, cam and lifters?

I'm thinking about ordering one for my 71 with a 350...

Thoughts?

I should add here, this is for a daily driver car, I'm looking for decent power and good gas mileage...I doubt she'll be raced. I just want to have some passing power.

I don't think much of the RPM cam. I ran one for a couple years. It needs 11:1 compression to work decent. Not suitable for a daily driver. The Performer Plus cam is a generic that can be got under many other names for much less money. I have this cam (from Melling) in my driver. Smooth idle decent torque, works with a wide range of CR's, likes 1.6 rockers. The Performer Plus manifold is decent matches well the the PP cam. It's a bit better than the stock manifold, weighs less, too. The RPM manifold is one of the best dual plane manifolds made. Highly recommended. As for the carb, I have the 1405 (600 cfm) on my driver. its OK, gets OK mileage. I'm seriously thinking of changing to a QudraJet for better mileage.

Here is what I recommend: a cam with about 260 or so advertised duration (204-218 @.050") depending on your compression ratio. A cam this size will work well with stock compression (8.5-9.5). The Performer manifold, and a QudraJet carb. If you want more cam, you need to have the CR to support it. Do you know what your's is?

Yes you dont want to be in my situation.

I bought the "power package" which for me included:
- Performer RPM cam
- Perfromer RPM intake
- 1406 600cfm carb
- 5703 Valve Springs (a must for hte cam)

Not until recently did edelbrock put the compression ratio warning on its site for hte cam, so i was not informed and there was no bad reviews out there, so i went for it.

So i have to put on a set of heads to try to grab some of that advertised power back lol.

I was told to go the vortec route, but i really hate the centerbolt-style heads and hte modern look to it. I much rather have a classic looking engine, and since im not racing anything they dont know what the dragster sound of the cam is coming from tongue.gif

Id recommend getting all the performer RPM stuff EXCEPT the cam, your much better off with a comp cams XE262H or XE268H, but anything is an improvement over stock tongue.gif

awe what the heck...stinkin dial-up is actin up again..bah!! what I was trying to say was I have the rpm package complete ina 383 but instead of a rpm cam I have a 280H magnum series comp. (comparable to the rpm) Likes 11 to 1 for sure, but its plenty stout and reliable with a decent tune..loves a steady diet of rice too... graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Don't know the exact CR, but I can tell you it's the original engine, freshened 6 years and 35K miles ago. Still has the original manifold and 2 barrel.

I'm tempted to pull this block, prep it for storage and put in a whole new engine to keep the matching numbers, but as it's not an SS, not sure.

I've never been a stock kind of guy, I like to customize things to me, and not the factory...but I understand the purists out there.

So either way...I'm gonna keep all that in mind and start looking at some planning. I was actually looking at the air gap performer manifold, trying to find some reviews.

Guess there really isn't a power package all in one setup...LOL.

Thanks for all the hinkfo.

the air-gap has marginal gains over hte performer RPM, and on the street, that means you wont see it at all. Its just race technology squeezed into a less radical intake, but it works. If i needed a new manifold id get it just for the heck of it.

Id recommend a holley carb though, once you start modifying your engine it will want hte extra breathability, and every article you will see on the 350 uses a 750cfm carb.

Holley offers their own "packages"

check out hte parts list, and than search for "wild street" on the holley website, they will tell you every single part and part number you need for an awesome combo smile.gif

IF you can extrapolate, Chris Corwel tested both Performer and RPM, and found nothing there. This is for a 5500 rpm motor/stock heads, so AirGap is teats on a bull hog here.

Source a good used dual plane alum hi rise and a nice new cam. BE ANAL about the cam installation and run in. Keep it small, you'll get away with stock springs.
