Shopping for an Enclosed Trailer 20-24'and looking for input on the towing performance /mileage of the V-nose or slant nose or the regular box with rounded corners like a HaulMark ..... Also is it just me or are new trailers alot cheaper these days ? I would have no problem buying a quality used trailer but used prices seem to be close to new .......I realize all trailers not built the same and would like to think I know what to look for .....I dont need all the bling pbly really only use 4 times a year max

You are 100% correct.. unless you get a smoking great deal on a used trailer, why bother? for not much more $$ you can get new and with warranty!

I had the Haulmark Aerostar with slanted front which I loved for air flow... I also used a 22FT vs 24 which was perfect for me, as I too didn't use my trailer for anything but putting the car inside.. no golf carts, no racing equipment, just the car!! and still had enough room in front of the car for a soft mattress for naps on long trips. I would tell you though, get the side escape door option.. worth every penny.. and it really is just pennies extra in my opinion for what you get, unless you prefer a winch.. which I didn't care for.

I believe you and I had this trailer discussion in Nashville. ;) Remember or should I post my recent trailer purchase experience?
BTW Bill...did you make it to Atlanta last weekend for NASCAR? I looked for 'ya...

I have a 24' Haulmark Thrifty Hauler. With the 70 it just breaks into the side door. This leaves probably 6-7 feet to the front of the trailer. With mine the combo weighs about 6700 between car and trailer and it cuts mileage into the single digits from about 13-14. I can't say how much gain from a slant nose though.

Great stuff guys ...I have been procrastinating on this trailer buy for a while but now that the CDN dollar worth something pbly should go for it ........Mike yes like you I think a 22 would be perfect for me was your 22' slant nose 22' inside befor the slant or included in slant ?

Bill yes I do remeber that conversation one of the reasons I startedlooking at new ones if I go new leaning stongly to the HaulMark ....... Yes did make it to Atlanta race but as you know finding some one there is like a needle in haystack and of course I meetup with 9 other guys our 10th year now.......we have 12 seats sec 149 row 1-4 each in row 16-17-18 extra seats are for any women we stumble across,ya right (been a while since that happened ) sat nite or more space for our fat asses :) But for sure I wont forget the drag race they have there Friday nite so will come in Thursday if still on next year .......got lucky and scored 2 Hot Passes !!!! for garage area which is pretty cool

Mileage I,m not really too concenered it wont be great no mater what trailer I get but just wondering if the v or slant nose worth the extra coin .I have heard that the soft round sides and top like a Haulmark does a good job for aero ?? How concerned should I be about 3500 lb axles with car and typical trailer the GVW will be close to 7000 or does everyone go for the 5200 lb axles ??

We had COLD passes for the weekend...lots of "scenery".;)
The Friday drags was a joke. If you ended up in the left lane, you lost...zero traction.:(
I recommend the 5200 lb axles. My 24' Haulmark weighs 4K empty...then add in a 3500 lb Chevelle and other items you'll easily be over weight.
On the way to the ACES Ohio show this year I dragged my truck, trailer, and the '70 across the PA State certified scales. Well over 15,000 lbs!
As you know, I have the Thrifty model...round corners. No problems towing in windy conditions and generally avg 14+ MPG.

I have a 22 Ft. Haulmark Thrifty Hauler. 3 doors, 102 wide. From the front bumper of the El Camino (17 ft-5") long I have appx. 5 Ft. to the front wall. Lot of room for " STUFF ". When I ordered mine I wanted a lot of EXTRAS--- Then the dealer explaned to me some of the things YOU do not want. Roof Vent-They will leak and cause problems, like cracking the roof metal. Fancy interior. " Are you showing the car or trailer " ?
The dealer said, " The more extras you get with the trailer, It will gain weight. Now what do you pull it with? NOT a half ton P/U. "Mine is a 99 Haulmark (Thrifty Hauler) In 99 it cost $4800.00 Out the door Tax, Title, Plates. This trailer is designed by Haulmark to haul SHOWCARS.
5 bolt wheels, GVW 7000 lbs. Mine is the same trailer as Randy Kirkers, His is a slant nose. I haul 4-7 times a year. I can say nothing bad about this trailer, It is small and light-weight and gets the job done.
YES Bigger is better, and Fancy is Nicer. Then you can learn new words like" DURA-MAX--CUMMINS--POWER_STROKE " I pull mine with a 1/2 ton X cab 03-Silverado Auto-5.3 Engine. NO problems, GET a slant nose.
I painted the walls white and the floor gray, I polish it in the spring.
P. S. A 22 Ft. Car trailer will haul ANY Standard American car built Except a 55-56 Eldo. Caddy Convert. They weigh in at around the low 5000 lbs.

Good Luck " EH " And say HI ! to your crew Chief.

I went with the 5000 lbs axles too. I didn't like the idea of being close to the limit, plus I thought with resale value it might be more attractive if it had more room.

I would say DEFINITELY get the heavy duty axles.. you will get a better ride and upgraded wheel/tire size too. and I think you ned to tell them to make it with DROP axles or you will not be able to open the door on your 66 once inside without hitting top of escape door.. experience here ;)

I have 28' Haulmark special built V-nose, 3 inch rise on axles to clear snow drifts in center of freeway lanes during snow season. Also lowers internal wheel wells for more clearance for car doors.

My son and I split the $10K cost 50/50 and he uses it in the winter to haul his snowmobiles and I get it in the spring/summer to haul my car toys to shows/races etc.

The V-nose he needs to get the snowmobiles out the front side door on the nose and bonus is low wind resistance while towing. Extra side door drivers side to get in and out of cars, man door on rightside and drop ramp at rear.

Get heavy duty axles with 4-wheel electric brakes, cheaper trailers sometimes have brakes on one axle only.

Anyway, you get what you pay for and extra few feet and heavy duty axles gives you more safety margin if/when you need it most.

Don't skimp on safety! Better to have a couple of feet of unused space than trying to put 10 lbs of @#$% in a 5-lb bag.

Mileage is more related to your tow vehicle than the trailer, weight is weight and depends on your tow rig what kind of mileage you get, but V-nose is best to cut wind resistance than other types. I use a newer ('07) Chevy diesel and get 12-15 depending on my foot and how nany hills/mountains I have to climb to get where I am going.

Good luck

Damm .......should have put the word out sooner ......if you hear of one FS let me know .....just got a pic of the new version PA plant making, similar but less angle and no fiberglass nose slop starts at about 5' mark on front ......will be lower cost to make than AirStar assume that was reason they did not sell many ??
