Its breaks my heart to use the manifold that came w/this 454 HO when I have an almost new polished RPM intake (oval) sitting on the floor. Anybody try using a oval intake on Rectangle heads w/good results? I'm afraid I already know the answer. :(

Vince,
I know of several guys that have done it with no problems at all. I suppose if you were building a Super Stock engine and were worried about every 2 horsepower, then it would not be a good idea, but on the street, you will probably never know the difference. There are plent of Rectangular port intakes out there bolted to oval port heads also .. you would think that would really mess up flow, but it does not seem to hurt that bad.
I say go for it smile.gif

He has it the other way around. He wants to know if he can use his oval intake on the Rec Heads - pretty sure the answer is won't work. Oval port intake won't cover the intake ports.

Vince, where are you in Thornton, I am on Dilworthown Rd, 1 mile (exact) up from Cheyney.

Rectangle intake on oval heads works because the volume is greater in the manifold, and the velocity speeds up as it enters the smaller ports in the heads, kind of a mini supercharger,I doubt its worth a whole lot,but when seeking max performance, every little bit helps. Oval intake on rectangle heads, while I'm sure it will work, throttle response might be a little lazy, which may or may not bother you a bit, depends on what you're going to do with the car. The guy that could tell you what its worth in e.t. posts at www.brackettalk.com (http://www.brackettalk.com) "Racer1320"

edit: I stand corrected,I forgot about the oval intake not covering, the ports on the heads redface.gif
