Thanks Tony so C2 white does that mean solid white? did the SS come solid white? kind of confused it has the remainders of the one thick one thin black striping across the nose and down the lower sides.

Yes C is solid white lower and the stripe across the nose and down the sides is the correct 68 SS stripe. CC would be white upper and lower, C-2 is for white lower with a black vinyl top.

Jeff please expand on what you mean. I am going to do to bare metal restro "ALL THE WAY" don't care how long it takes all I have is time! I do not have a matching #'s motor so my thought are BIG and BAD our family owns a performance shop in Fort worth, oil runs through our viens! what I am at a loss on is weather to do a minimal tubing for fat meat or just leave it alone and stuff as much aas possible under it. the trunk and floor pans will be replaced. by slight tubing I mean add a 2-3 inch strip in the inner fender well and use the same shape it already has. the car has ALL the trim only have one piece that needs work or replacing I just can"t wait to drive it again. thanks for everyon's help.

Just to add one element, 13837 is more specifically a SS396 sport coupe as opposed to a 13637 Malibu sport coupe. :)

Because it is a 138 car means everything in the world...a really good old timer metal man can fix that car right...it might cost you about 5 to 8 grand to get it done and it might have to sit in someone's shop for a year (and that is a guesstimate)...those old timers are doing collision work cause that is where the money is...but on saturdays and slow times they work on the muscle and the rods...the trick is to find that hot rod body shop...you wanna drag that car to TTown and pay the 5-8K (remember that is only a guesstimate) I'll give you a guy's number to call...

As far as motor and tubs...hey if you are gearhead put a 502 or whatever in that sucker if you want...that kinda of motor is going to be intrinsically worth a certain amount of ghitas by itself...I might mini tub such a car just so you get a 10.5 tire under there but I wouldn't bushwhack it...I'd be really torn about caging it but hey if you wanna go faster then 11.0 and you want the tire you gotta do it...the car one way or the other is gonna be worth some ghitas...but only if it is done right...You might consider gusseting the frame if you are gonna go real fast...

Here is a pic for you to grow on (just an old SKINNY block Bu with the tire and cage...high 9-low 10 sec street car) and a link to some race car guys sorta in your area that might help you to locate the right bodyshop...

I have to tell you the other side of the coin too I guess...it is a 138 car...so maybe you oughta restore it as close to factory as you can get because the 138 cars are few and far in between nowadays...

A little story for you...there is a gentlemen here in Tulsa that bought a 69 green SS bigblock car white interior stripe on the side brand new...still has the car...90K one owner miles...the car is immaculate...one repaint years ago original flawless interior...all documents and paraphenalia...original title...a true #1 car...about 5 years ago at the Daryll Starbird show he was offered a cool 50K for the car...he told me it was hard to turn down but he did...he just shook his head and said he couldn't believe it...that is how special these cars are to people like us...

Old malibus you can still find for very reasonable dollars...there are probably afew on the classifieds here...they are better candidates for race car fodder...

Decisions decisions...

Why clone them...just make them Johnnie Bigblock Originals...Baldwin, Yenko, and all them other guys did it...hahhaha

You already have enough Malibus JB...you should make me a good deal on one when I get my other cars paid off...

everyone that replied Thanks, I am really torn! the cars body will not get anything more than mini tubs. no roll bar I am ALL about the Looks of these cars, also as I said my family has a speed shop and my brother is a crack welder with both mig and tig under his belt. So thanks for the link but I think I am going to keep this one in house, I once had a 66 SS396 and had to sell it so this one I will be buried in it! When completed I will have pride in knowing that a proud American built it in 1968 and another Proud American brought it back to it's intended stature.
God Bless America!

I have several 396's I'd have to check but I think he's far enough away he could find one closer and bypass massive ship costs. If he wants me to check I will.

If you want a cool hot rod to bring to local shows then it doesn't matter. Build it the way you want it and have fun. Correct date might matter if you were to compete in shows.
