I have been running with facory exhaust manifolds for years, but want to install headers on my 1970 El Camino. I'ver heard all kinds of stories about leaks and draging them on the ground. I'd like to hear from the members here regading which brands are good or bad, tips on installation, or any other advice that will help me choose the right parts. As of right now, I'm leaning toward Hedman #68606 or #68608 Elite Shorty style headers. I have factory A/C, and GM aluminum angle-plug heads (ZZZ crate 350). The car is lowered approximately 2 inches, and has a TH350 auto with floor console shifter.

Thanks in advance for your help.

No opinions at all? Should I have posted this in different forum?

I am running 1 3/4" hooker super comps on my small block el camino. They fit perfectly with no clearance issues. No leaks at all either. I am running a mini starter, I would recommend a mini starter if you use headers because the heat can damage your starter over time, and the mini starter provides more clearance. Make sure you install the starter before you install the headers, because you can't put the starter on once the headers are in place.

i have patriot coated headers and they have a nice big flange and they tuck up very well also. The collectors end evenly too, very rare in headers. i have a chevelle but i assume they are the same

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. Anyone running the Hedman #68606 or #68608 Elite Shorty style headers, or anyone running factory A/C with headers?

I am running Hedmans in my 69 Elky and I have no problems with them, just the usual gasket problems that are encountered in the life of a gasket!I bought them at a good price from a local dealer awhile back they are painted not coated. That is the only requirement that you should have today, get the coated headers!!I keep mine in decent repair, but that requires removal cleaning and painting.
