At what point do you all think the switch from a 750HP to a 950HP would be beneficial?

Currently I have a Pro-Systems 780HP on my 79 Monte, and needless to say the carb is dynamite. The current motor is built for torque- 400, 11ish to 1 compression, 200cc heads, very streetable hydraulic roller, RPM air gap etc. At the track I shift the car at 6,000 RPMs through full 3 inch exhaust, and the one time I made it to the track this year the car ran a best of 11.59 @ 113.8.

I've heard a lot of good things about the 950HP carbs, and just wanted a little bit of insight... because the carb I have now seems to work excellent yet.

Thanks guys!

I think if you only made it to the track once this year you probably don't need to spend money on something that will net only a tenth. Your times are very respectable as they are!

To be honest, search the 950HP. It's not what it's made out to be. It has a 1.375 venturi which is the same as a 750 but has 1-3/4 butterflies like an 850. It will not flow much more than a 750 and most likely will not make a difference for you.

Consider this:

There was a fellow here, AK69 I think, who was running a "BSE" 454 with a 770 Street Avenger of all carbs, and he was running something like 11.50's. Put on a ProSystems HP1000 double pump I believe and goes 11.4x.

Bottom line, if your chasing tenths, I think you'll get something out of it. Based on this, I dont think you will see a night ans day difference.

Thanks again for the input guys.

I'm aware of the "interesting" combo that makes up a 950, and that was the reason I always understood it was a very forgiving carb of its size.

Maybe I'll just pick up an Innovative this winter and do some tuning on my current combo. Probably money better spent.

Now... oh Wolfy! :D

What about the 1000cfm 4150 style carbs? are they are big step up from 950? It seems like the 750 to 950 conversion isn't much of a jump based on specs. I'd hope a 1000cfm carb truely flows somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000cfm:confused:

I run the HP750DP on my 468. I have a Phantom vacum gauge in the cab. I have had people watch the guage from 1000-6200 RPMS through 1st, 2nd then to 5200 in third (pretty much a q-mile run) the guage never even tried to move off the peg. Thats when I ditched the idea of a 850-950 carb. you might see more moving from a standard 750.
