PCB67SS Oct 26th, 07, 11:32 PM Vinny that car ought to rock with the powerplant. Looks great should be a real blast to drive. Does the water neck happen to have a part number on it?
VinnyLSS572 Oct 26th, 07, 11:34 PM I can get a part number for you on Monday.

Bret Oct 26th, 07, 11:37 PM Looks sweet, Bet that thing will move pretty good.
We have a Customer that has the 620hp in a 67 Corvette. He has the factory exhaust setup for a 427, Cast monifolds and chambered side pipes. It really runs like crud, exhaust is way too small for the cubid inch and cam, way too much reversion and back pressure, acts like an egr valve thats open. G.M. recomends minimum 3in exhaust.
What wheels do you have on the back of that 70 Chevelle? Width, backspace and tire?
Bret....
PCB67SS Oct 26th, 07, 11:38 PM Vinny that would be great if you don't mind...GM performance catalog doesn't list it and I hate the chrome ones...Thanks
VinnyLSS572 Oct 26th, 07, 11:40 PM Bret,The Chevelle has 4.5" backspaced Weld draglites that are 15X10 and have Hoosier 29.0X10.5X15W slicks on them.

Bret Oct 26th, 07, 11:48 PM Vinny, How much clearance do you have on the fender, I thought most guys run 5.5" backspace on a 15x10? Sorry to hijack you post about the camaro.
My wifes brother had a 69 with oposite colors, moroon w/grey stripes. Thats where I got my 454 on a trade. He later totaled it.
Bret.......
BillyGman Oct 27th, 07, 2:40 AM Looks excellent Vinny. How deep into the 9's do you think that you'll be with this car?
cmt454 Oct 27th, 07, 7:56 AM  Nice! That car is looking sweet!
Beautiful car. Very nice and real clean! That powerplant look good in there.
Is there an tranny in the car in those pics? The back of the engine looks like it is tilted down more than normal?
VinnyLSS572 Oct 27th, 07, 9:39 AM Bret,I will check my rims today, you may be right and it may be 5.5 backspace.I rolled the lips on the quarters and run a 1/8" wheel spacer. The clearance is tight and they do rub slightly when you make the u-turn onto the return road at the track.
Billy,My drag simulator says 9.24 at 139,I would be happy with that (for now)
Jim,The transmission is in the engine is slightly higher in the front. It is the same in my Chevelle.

10secBu Oct 27th, 07, 9:48 AM Just for anyones future reference. i was paging through the Afco catalog the other day and found that Dynatech offers headers for the GM tall deck 572 in the Camaro/Nova chassis.
part number 500-910600
2 1/8" primary
Harold Sutton Oct 27th, 07, 10:27 AM How heavy is this Camaro going to be Vinny? It should be at least a half second quicker and 6 MPH faster than a similar Chevelle if there is a 300-400 lb. or so weight reduction. That Camaro should get on the ground better than the Chevelle with that big tire. Even with similar power it should be lots quicker because it can utilize the engine's torque better. How big are you planning to make the exhaust header's primary pipes? I think these engines would benefit from a little more cam timing. A pretty sharp engine guy from Kansas told a friend of mine that a 4 1/2" collector will make more power than a larger 5" one on 2 1/4" - 2 3/8" primaries.
VinnyLSS572 Oct 27th, 07, 10:40 AM Harold,I believe the car will weigh in at 3000lb or less without the driver. The nose is all glass with GM steel bumper which are light for this model.I also eliminated several bumper brackets and lightened the rest by removing material wherever possible. My buddy has a 67 Camaro that is very similar to mine but he has Lexan instead of glass and his car weighs in at 2600LB sans driver.I know that the 67-68 body style is lighter than the 69.The Chevelle is 3640LB sans driver and has run a best so far of 10.28@128.05.
I dont think it would be unbelieveable for this car to run close to a second faster when dialed in?What do you guys think?
Vinny
VinnyLSS572 Oct 27th, 07, 10:43 AM Dynatech also makes a 2 1/8 header specifically for 67-69 Camaros with a tall deck application but they cost 749.00 and the collectors are an additianal 399.00.I also want to go to a true 2 1/4 ID header for this application.

Vinny Might be possible at 3200 lbs. total weight and with the extra tire. A reasonably high stall converter will be a necessity in this car. A 640 lb. weight difference is going to make lots of difference, so it might run low nines.
VinnyLSS572 Oct 27th, 07, 11:00 AM I spoke with Frank Lupo at Dynamic Converters and after taking everything into consideration he reccommended a 9" 5000 Stall converter with diode. The car has 4.56 gears and I will running Goodyear 33.0X15.0X15.0 slicks. The car should trap at about 6400-6500 rpm with this combo.

bracketchev1221 Oct 27th, 07, 3:14 PM Vinny I'm going to say you'll be around 9.50 at 138. My tank weighs 2970 without me 3150 with me in it. Making 840 hp it's gone 9.32 at 141. I think at that speed though that motor will be closer to 7000 in the lights. Mine crosses at 75-7600 with 4.88's. Hope this helps a little.
40Coupe Oct 27th, 07, 3:20 PM Nice. Thanks for sharing Vinny. Keep us posted on ET's. There is a fella up here who dropped a ZZ572/620 into a mini tubbed '55 Chevy. So far it's gone 7.15 in the 1/8th. I think you'll do much better than that. ;)
Chris Stanwyck Oct 27th, 07, 5:19 PM Incredible looking car Vinny.
Done just the way I like em.
Great luck and successes with the car.

My Chevelle has gone 6.48 in the 1/8 with a ZZ572/720 and the Camaro should go considerably faster than that. Thanks for your comments
