I'm thinkin of clear powdercoating my stock style master cylinder. Anybody else done that? Most likely I'll have to gut it first. I never gutted a master cylinder. Easy to do? I imagine it would be. Its getting a slight rust coat and I want to make it look nice again. Is the powder coating chemical resistant? I had my alternator clear powdercoated while it was being rebuilt and that came out real nice. Whaddya think??

You will have to gut it first, and it's quite easy. It won't be chemical resistant though. It's still only paint, and regular brake fluid will take it right off. Silicon brake fluid will not harm it, but before you go that route, do a search, and you will find ALOT of discussion on silicon pros/cons.
I would gut it, have it checked out, honed if necessary and have your replacement parts ready to go. You should be able to get a rebuild kit at NAPA. Once it's coated, reassemble.

Clear coat powder should be chemical resistant. You do have to gut it as you have to heat the master to 400 degrees to powder coat.

I powdercoated mine Gloss Black on one car and if you want a bare metal look i do them in Cast Iron Powder Coating. My freind works at a rebuilder and he rebuilt it after i powdercoated it. I never do clear over metal that is prone to rust under the coating and show through. You can get the Cast Iron powdercoat from eastwood or i would do your Master cylinder if you need it done. I can do stuff as long as driveshafts and rearend housings and the biggest Quad Frames. red67ss@fidnet.com Kevin
