: bracing for floor pan removal (pic)
happygounlucky86 Oct 26th, 07, 7:14 PM So you fellas think this is adiquite bracing for removing the entire floor pan, and inner/outer rockers? or should i throw another one in there on the bottom? Im getting the one peice with rockers in a few weeks and want to make sure im not going to mess it all up. Im pretty sure it should all be kosher but i just wanted a second opinion. It should only be floorless for about a weekend, would be nice to get it knocked out in a day, But we'll see. I kinda feel in in over my head here. Im a noob in the welding department too but im catching on. Let me know what ya think! Thanks guys!

forever young Oct 28th, 07, 9:57 PM hey guys, I just changed out my 1 piece trunk floor pan, ( I was even succesful at it ), next I am going to do the back seat pan and then the 1 piece floor pan leaving my cross memeber braces in place and the car on the frame. I am doing it without adding bracing and doing it on the mounts and frame, one piece at a time. Am I doing it wrong by not bracing it? Nothhing appears to move and I am using new body mount bushings as I go along to assist with the body, being aligned correctly. Am I doing this wrong without the bracing?

rubadub Oct 28th, 07, 10:56 PM Like Andy says, the frame will keep it all straight, but a jig that duplicates those frame mounts will make accessibility a whole lot nicer.

crazy canuck Oct 28th, 07, 11:44 PM Braces can't hurt, but I think they are over done to death.I do collision repairs and painting for a living.I can tell you I have rebuilt complete vehicles from roll overs to side hits and complete floor replacements ,you name it I have had to change it.I have never used braces in my 20 year career. If you are changing the full floor, your firewall is going to hold the front together and your rockers and rear trunk floor will hold the back together. Before you cut it apart take X measurements of your door openings and width measurement between the strikers and a few other spots.Put it all back together with sheet metal screws and make sure your measurements are the same.I have done complete rear clips and front clips(join two different cars together on the factory seams) where there is no place to put braces.

The difference here is you know what your doing, and a lot of us don't. The first time we do it might be the only time, so a little extra bracing here and there will help.
