A friend of mine is selling these motors..
He has NO clue what they are worth, all I know is that they have some serious nostalgia stuff...
any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's the email he sent me -

Hey man, A while back I told you about those motors that belong to my uncle that he inhareted after his step father died. Like I said before, he's planning on selling them. He left it up to me and a few weeks ago I went to his shop and took a **** load of pics of them. I also found out a bit more info on them since the last time I posted you. I could use your help on finding out what these motors are worth, since you seem to be the most knowledgeable on the site when it comes to big blocks...Here's a list of info I found out on each engine.

ENGINE 1: 454ci Block# 3999289--This motor is
complete with KINSLER Mechanical Fuel Injection,
aluminum heads-(casting-#3946074), roller rockers,
fuel pump, oil sump, starter, H-Dampener, chrome valve covers w/ breathers, distributer, Marine headers, etc.

ENGINE 2: 454T ci Block# 14044807--This motor is
built from a truck block (tall deck) and has 4-bolt mains. It is a near complete long block. It includes GM HI-Performance cast iron heads with roller rockers, fuel pump, large capacity oil sump, H-dampener, Chrome Valve covers w/ tall breathers. Included is a ROWER Mechanical fuel injection manifold (can also be
purchased separately from the engine)

ENGINE 3: 427 ci Block# 3916321--This motor has
4-bolt mains. It includes a MOONEYHAM BLOWER but is
missing the front drive pulley. The Blower is bolted to a WEIAND aluminum intake. It also has aluminum heads-(casting #3946074) large capacity oil sump, standard valve covers. There are NO rockers.
I’m unsure on what type of crank, rods and pistons
each of these motors have, as well as the type/size of each cam.

Also, I was looking up the casting numbers on the
aluminum cylinder heads on engine-1 and engine-3 and
found out that they came off an L-88 corvette Big
block.

We're not trying to get top-dollar for these things, but we don't want to be "giving them away" at an insanely low price. Do you have a rough ball-park figure for each?

Thanks

At one time they were the state of art but that was a long time ago. The parts are all usuable especially the injection. If the short blocks are not broken they still are very good parts. The heads are outdated unless they have some serious mods but still can be used. Someone will want the whole mess but I really can't tell you what it is worth.

Are those Marine manifolds on there. Marine motors are setup different then street. I would say ebay 1 at a time and cut your ties.

The 074 heads are $1500 a set, the Kinsler is $3000....man that's alot of beautiful stuff !!!

wheel it all and keep #1,recam it, convert the Kinsler to EFI (around $2500) and HANG ON!!!

Mike, I know its all retro, but , man, you can make retro SCREW!!!! Imagine that 454 with the Kinsler converted to EFI and a mild solid roller!!!. :D :D

How much for the Crower mechanical setup? I've heard anywhere from $1500+, liker 3 for the Kinsler.
Boy, if I was nearby, I;d offer to get him top $$ for all of just for the Crower injection setup.

That was my thought, The Kinsler setup for EFI has got to be the neatest street setup there is.

At one time a Calliope injector stack (pic 2) was probably my favorite "wish" for a wild street engine - never did happen though.

Your friend has an interesting collection of parts assembled into engines. For all but the bravest of souls they will need a teardown and reassembly at minimum. The real kicker is that the internals may or may not be pretty used up.

As a group lot sale ~ $10k should seal the deal. Separating all the parts and patiently dealing with multiple buyers shoud net ~ $12k - but if the internals are pretty used up, then the remaining saleable parts would only net ~ $10k.

One thing about many marine engines...especially those that have been in salt water is the corrosion factor...they can be pretty on the outside but inside can look horrible.... Try to find out what the look like on the inside.Electrolisis <sp> and corrosion can make an alum head porus from the inside out.

I'm not saying these are bad...not at all... just something to watch out for.

Crower setup will go for $1000-1500 depending on condition, completeness, etc..

The Crower unit is one of the best looking, because of the unsymmetrical stacks.

No, its not a for sale ad, he is just someone I know from an online forum. He is a VW guy, :D and has not a clue about the value of these things. I just wanted to be able to steer him in the right direction.

Notice, no prices listed for the parts? :D
And no ebay auction tongue.gif

Thanks for all the help guys, Ill pass it along.
