I brought home my other chevelle last night. It has the original 230 6 banger in it. It has not been run in 12+ years. I know it needs oil changed amoung other things. Will a v8 oil pump priming tool work on this? I did a search and couldn't find anything.

What type of primer tool is it? Does it have just a shaft and no cast dist. body to it?
To the best (or worst) of my memory I think that you could use just the shaft style as long as it engages in the oil pump shaft pick-up. I dont think the lifters and its oil galley require the dist body installed to pre-oil them on the 6 cylinder oiling system. I believe we just used a shaft out of an older 6 cylinder dist. and used the shaft attached to a drill.
The distributor housing bodies between V-8 and 6 are not identical which is why just the shaft may work. You can pull the valve cover to verify lifter oiling up to the rockers.

Please USE CAUTION when using an electric drill attached to the end of the distributor shaft and no housing body to center and support that shaft. It's going to wobble some when the oil pressure comes up, I would recommend using the optional side mounted support handle and a variable speed drill. SLOW and STEADY is what you are looking for.

I don't have one yet. Trying to avoid buying the wrong one. I might to look around for a old 6 dist. Thanks for the info.

MANY years ago (no, actually it was a looooooooooooooong time ago), before I made my own priming tool from a junk distributor, I burned the plastic handle off of a long, junk screwdriver, chucked it in a drill and it worked just fine (yes, it did wobble a bit, but it still did the job).
Today, I still use a priming tool that I made from a junk alum dist about 30yrs ago. I ground off the teeth from the dist gear, cut off the top of the dist shaft, turned the top end of the shaft down to fit a 3/8 drill and I use it on every engine.
Junk, corroded alum Chevy distributors can be picked up at swap meets for $2-5. Last week at the Chickasha swap meet I got 2/$10 from a guy.
