: Any fitt problems with Dynomax and GM or Edelbrock heads?
Has anyone had any fitt problems with the Edel./GM alum. heads?
I have an old set of Blackjack's that I tried to fitt to my Edelbrocks today and the head bolts are hitting the bottom of the header flange?

Importtech Oct 30th, 04, 10:51 PM NO PROBLEM if they fit like the small blocks. I have the edelbrock RPM and summit ceramic coated(dynomax) on mine and they fit real nice.
edit...I'm using ARP head bolts as well..
jay Oct 30th, 04, 11:16 PM ARP sells a bolt kit with shorter heads. I ran into the same problem with my 454 using RPM heads. The kit is less than 20.00
1966_L78 Oct 31st, 04, 1:31 AM I had to take a die grinder to the lower flange... It would have been nice if I test fit them to the heads BEFORE I dropped it into the car... Had to pull it all back out again to clearance them...
Thanks for the replys:
The heads are allready on so the short head bolt deal is not an option.
I forgot to mention it is a BBC, 1966-L78 did you have to grind every flange?

mild68ss Oct 31st, 04, 9:22 PM I had to trim the headers on my 502, because the bolts have a taller head.

Keith Tedford Nov 1st, 04, 2:22 AM We had the same head bolt interference problem with Hooker Competition headers on a '74 454. By luck we had test fitted the headers to the engine while it was on the stand and corrected the problem. Made the job much easier.
SS_Sean Nov 1st, 04, 2:57 AM That's great info! I'm getting ready to drop my 468 in my Malibu in about a month. GMPP heads (Edelbrocks) with Hooker Supercomp hedders. I'll test fit them on the engine stand and make adjustments as necessary. Thanks, guys! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Thanks for the replys:
I was going to break the motor in with the blackjacks I have then put on a new set of coated dynomax.
Guess now I will just put the dynomax on and hope they dont get discolored during break in.

427L88 Nov 2nd, 04, 9:16 AM TC,that's not a great bet to make, at least in my experience. Seems I always get a pipe or two too warm and dull the ceramic some. Might want to use the floor fan trick, since without, can almost guarantee you'll dull a few pipes.
Thanks for the reply 427L88:
Your probably rite, "MURPHY" hasnt been very good to me latley.
Besides I'll get practice grinding the headers.

elky72ss454 Nov 2nd, 04, 7:27 PM I have Dynomax headers on a Ram Jet 502. I had to grind the header flanges before they would bolt up..... graemlins/sad.gif
Anyone have any problem with them hitting a mini starter?
Or starter mounting block?

elky72ss454 Nov 2nd, 04, 9:49 PM I have a mini starter and clearance is no problem there.......
I have a set of Dynomax's Pro Series Jet Hot ceramic coated headers with 2" primaries. BB Chevy with GM Performance aluminum heads in a 70 El Camino. The fit is horrible. graemlins/sad.gif
