Hi there, I have pretty much narrowed down my search for a new converter to these 2 companies.

Here is what ea. recommended based on my info:

Dynamic: 9 1/2" that would stall at approx 4-4200.
Comes with aluminum stator, anti balloning plates etc. etc.. 550$ Good on the highway and with a great guarantee/warranty. Frank Luppo spoke to me and he seems like a good guy, for what it;s worth

TS: 9" XHD with mech diode. The guy said this would flash to 5000 and still be great for long hauls on the highway......wow!
The tech guy did not seem really interested in giving much in depth info just its 695$ and will stall at 5 grand.

Any t houghts on the 2 diff. companies? Anyone have any experience with either company?

My combo is in short: 454, UD 288/296 F10, Vic Jr, 950HP, 10.5 comp, 049's ported w/ 2.25/1.88s, 4.10s, 29.5 x 9s

Give these guys a call,
Pat's Converters Tel:610-237-6900
I am local to Trans Specialties and have gotten Converters and Trans parts there before. Don't have the business card in front of me for the contact name, but several of the people at TS left and formed this company. Nothing but Custom converters. Real clean shop, very knowledgeable people. Had my TCI converter gone over by Pat's this fall.

Chris,

I know we emailed back and forth on this, but I wanted to post up that I love my Trans Specialties 9" XHD Mech Diode converter. I went with them again because I, as well as many racers in my area, have had such good experience with their converters in the past. Once again I am very happy. I flash at 4200 +/- with real nice street manners. I have their Medium Stall converter setup for my combo.

Just a heads up...I received a new catalog from ATI in the mail today and they are running a sale. You might want to check their website or give them a call to see what kind of price you could get into a MRT Treemaster for.

One other thing you may want to look at are the BTE converters. They have a full one-year warranty on the sprag/stator, and have all of the features listed for the others above, like dual anti-ballooning plates, furnace-brazed fins, etc. Their street/strip 9.5" goes for $375, and their 10" is $355. Some of the listed prices you mention are pretty steep for what you are getting! The full-on 8" BTE race converters with aluminum stators are under $700, and the steel-stator versions are $735. I am not a big fan of the MD, and had some experiences with them when they first came out years ago from A-1 Transmissions. They are a ratchet-style means of replacing a sprag, and I found that they did not work or live real well all the time. Today's sprags are much better than those of years ago, and IMO a sprag is much better than a MD, especially if you are on and off the gas driving it around. If you'd like any more info just let me know.

Steve,

I appreciate your input to this topic, and providing your opinion on the Mech Diode. So far so good and will not be touching it at all next year. After next season I will send to TS for a freshen up.

I am very interested and anxious to hear the results of Ed's tests the BTE converter as this will influence my thinking on trying a BTE after next year.
