'70 Malibu with a round-gauge dash - car was originally A/C but most parts are long since gone. The fireall suitcase still remains as does the control unit in the dash and some pretty tore-up plumbing for it...
I want (I think!) to switch to heat-only for now. Eventually, an after-market A/C unit is fine. My logic is that by the time I acquire all the parts to build a new A/C system and then convert it away from R12, it would be cheaper and probably more efficient to go with something more modern.
So, the vent tubing in the dash is disintegrating and the control unit would be wrong. Can/should I convert the existing controller to heat-only? What about all of the vaccum tubing? Still routes and acts the same?
Then, what about the suitcase on the firewall? Can I convert it to use as a heater only or should I just block off the holes and acquire a heater unit? I'd sure like to lose the big "thing" under the hood if I can...
So in short, what's the easiest and best way to convert from A/C to heat only?
