: Do you run tubes in your slicks?

I have a set of 28x10.50 ET Drags, with MT tubes and rim screws. I'm mounting the slicks this weekend (on my extra wheels), but i dont know if I want to use the tubes or not.

Are there any disadvatages to running tubes? If not then I guess I will put them in.

I've never run slicks before, so I thought I would ask just to be safe.

If it matters, the car has a Tremec 3550 with a 3.27 first gear, and 3.90's in the rear. There should be some pretty good torque multiplication

PS. Jason, if you read this, I think these are the slicks you just sold to Mark Knappenberger with those wheels smile.gif

At my track its in the rules that you HAVE to run tubes in slicks, I assumed that it was an NHRA rule also. But no I did not run tubes in the one pair of slicks that I have had, they were some take offs that were good for a race. The tech guys didn't look too close at them. I was SUPPOSED to have the wheel studs stick out 1/2" past the lug nuts too. oh well.

I run 14.5x32 Hoosier slicks on 15x15 Bogart wheels with NO tubes and screwed to the rim with 8 screws per side. They hold air for months over the winter.
I just heavily coat the entire inside of the tire with LEMON JOY dishwashing liquid straight out of the bottle and let 'em air dry for 24 hours before mounting.
I've done this to lots of different slicks with the same very good results.
I don't like tubes cause of the several pounds of extra rotating weight that you have to get moving and the chance of wrinkling and tearing them on launch.

no tubes no screws, I have moved the tire on the rim a few times no more than 1/4". most likely due to low tire pressure.

Mine moved as much as 4 inches in one night, I just put more air in them, drove it to town, then next time back to the track,no more movement.
