: Will she go 12.99
dbreese Aug 1st, 04, 4:21 PM Came back from the track Friday night and was able to knock a little time off of my previous best. Went 13.65 @ 102.140 on street tires (215-70-15's). It was still about 89 degrees and 90% humidity at 9:30 PM when I made this pass. I'm trying to go as quick as I can on street tires just for grins and giggles. The run went like this:
r/t .295 graemlins/boring.gif
60' 2.236 Have to roll into the throttle
330' 5.873
1/8 8.863 @ 82.65mph
1000' 11.44
1/4 13.65 @ 102.14
My car is an all steel full interior 72 Monte stock suspension with a 8.2 Eaton posi rear and 3.36 gears. The motor setup:
385 s/b
10.25 comp
pro topline iron heads with 200 cc/ 64cc CC
Cam Motion hyd flat tappet 240/242 @ 0.050
Elde air gap RPM
Speed Demon 650 mech box stock
Accel HEI with crane hi-6
Trans is a 350 w/ Coan 11" 3000 stall
My questions are how much faster can I go with the stock tires? If I run a good set of rear tires (DOT slicks, drag radials)could I knock enough off my 60' to make 12.99 even possible? Would I need to do anything to the tune up other than tires?
Thanks in advance!
David

Its all in the 60 ft.
Redrum Aug 1st, 04, 10:04 PM The telling point is the MPH and I do not think 102 MPH will quite get you into the 12's.

Your MPH might/should be a little higher though..whats your timing at?
BlueSS454 Aug 1st, 04, 11:04 PM Just found my time slips.
Street tires:
13.04 @ 106.5 MPH best 1/4 ET with a 1.99 60'
8.39 @ 85.22 MPH best 1/8 ET with a ?? 60'
Slicks:
12.726 @ 105.27 MPH best 1/4 ET with a 1.847 60'
8.245 @ 84.34 MPH best 1/8 ET with a 1.89 60'
13.18 @ 95.85 MPH
13.09 @ 99.11 MPH
12.94 @ 102.27 MPH
12.72 @ 105.27 MPH
13.32 @ 102.13 MPH
13.23 @ 104.87 MPH

13.24 @ 102.68 MPH
13.04 @ 106.57 MPH
13.37 @ 105.02 MPH
13.73 @ 105.98 MPH
13.83 @ 103.18 MPH
13.89 @ 99.14 MPH
These are all the times I have had in my 70. The 2 12 second ETs are the only runs I had on slicks. I've been trying forever to get a 12 sec run on street tires, it just won't hook at my home track (Atco Raceway). I think another trip is coming in the near future, as soon as it cools down a little graemlins/thumbsup.gif . I now have spare street tires so I don't kill the good ones I have on there now.

dbreese Aug 2nd, 04, 10:15 PM Thanks for the info guys.
Chris I run 18 intial 36 total all in at 3000 rpm
I've been to the track three times and have made no adjustments to the car. Just trying work on the tree, launch and shift points. Getting a little faster each time but I think I've reached my limits with 60' on these tires. I'm working on getting a set of MT ET Streets. Hope that and a little tuning might help me crack the 12's
Tom. Your MPH on your 12.94 is close to my MPH run of 102.14 Just .13 off. So I guess it is possible. Nice numbers BTW. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Thanks

That a lot of cam for a 383 w/ 3.36 gears. Is this ground on a 110LSA or 114LSA? Must be very radical sounding.
i agree with green69, that is a fairly big cam with 3.36 gears. i think with some 3.73's and some tires it will easily run 12.60's when you get it tuned in real good. without the gears it might be difficult to get into the 12's. your mph is right on the borderline of being a high 12 though.
dbreese Aug 4th, 04, 4:03 PM Hey Grn69chv, m71
The cam is ground on 111.5 LSA and does have a healthy sound. Idles at 750 rpm but the converter helps with this. I had sent my engine specs to Cam Motion and they custom ground one.
I agree I could put more gear behind it. When I installed the 3.36 gears originally I had my stock 350 in it and never intended to do anything else (Oh well, you know how that goes). So maybe down the road I'll put some gear in (3.73) For now I'll try the tires to lower the 60' and do a little tuning.
Thanks for the advice guys graemlins/beers.gif
