I recently replaced the wiper motor on my 1967 Chevelle. Everything was working fine. Hit a dry spell where I didn't need wipers. It rained the other day and I went to turn on the wipers and nothing. First I replaced the fuse and still nothing. Next, I "jumped" the wiper motor direrectly from the battery and it worked. My question is this: Could my problem be the switch in side the car or do I need to trace the electricital wiring from the motor back to the power source?

I would check for a good ground on the motor, from the motor ground clear back to the battery.

If thats good, check for 12v at the input to the switch:
good= turn switch on, and check for 12v output to motor
bad=trace back to the source until you find 12v

When you check switch output in the ON position:
good= ohm from switch output (power off) to the motor, could be a break somwhere
bad= bad switch

Hah, sorry. To sum up what I said and ANSWER your question, ...Yes, turn the wipers "ON" and trace back until you find 12 volts.:) It might be best to start right at the switch and go from there.

The wiper/washer motor always has 12v anytime the key is on, (yellow wires) when the wiper switch is turned on one or more of the wires are grounded to make it work. The ltblue and black are both grounded for low speed the ltblue only for high speed. The dkblue grounds to latch the washer pump for one cycle.
