Hi guys I'm new here but an old member at Nastyz28.com. Ed comes to visit sometimes but I thought I'd ask him a few questions here and get everyones feedback on the BSE combo. I found some 215 heads and I'm ready to build the combo. I dropped my engine off yesterday for machine work. Thanks in advance for your help.

1. What type of 10 inch TCI converter is used for the BSE combo? Street Fighter? Super Street Fighter?

2. Has anyone else built the combo and had the same results as Ed? Anyone run a modified combo? If so what did you do different and what was the outcome?

3. How much power would I lose running a Edelbrock Torker intake compared to the Perf RPM. How much driveabilty would I lose?

I am building the flat tappet version of the combo.

Ed doesn't post or answer questions on this forum. Might ask him the question over on NastyZ.

Or Second Generation Camaro Owners Group??

Might check under one of his racer1320 post's "handle" and see if you can't e-mail him at home using the e-mail link at the top??

I'm sorry, I don't think of SGCOG as being the "Nastyz28" site...

Best place to find him is over at Dragraceresults.com graemlins/beers.gif No TCI converter in any of the versions of his BSE combo. ATI is the kind. Orignial version of the BSE (ultradyne hydralic flat tappet cam)used the 10" Treemaster converter. I tryed to build my engine in agreement with the BSE combo. I did make changes / sacrifices due to parts all ready owned and in hand. I am using 049 heads rather than the 215's. I had to angle mill my heads to raise the compression for the pistons I am using, ended up at 9.5 to 1, around 1 full point less than the BSE spec. Also the BSE specs out MSD ingniton, I am running DUI HEI. I have the "wrong" carb as well. Using a Holley 770 avenger carb, specs call for a HP950 or a worked over Q jet. The theory is all about ALL parts / componets matched and working as a total package for MAX performance. 66BBCONV aka Bill has matched the engine build as well as any I know of on this board...........but he is a 4 speed street freak and has not been to the track that I know of. I think he's content to terrorize the driving public on the local roadways!!!! With the "wrong" carb, compression / open chamber heads, igniton, 3.70 rear gear (should be 4.10), to tall of slicks (30x10.5x15 radial Hoosiers, should be using some 10x28's)and zero tuning and driving skills at the track I have made low 12's. If I can ever get back to the track, I know this car will run 11's, just like Ed said it would graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The big picture is GM iron Large oval ports, dual plane intake, 10 to 1 compression, correct cam, 1 3/4 x 3inch headers, converter selection, and suspension tuning.

As this combo was presented as doing more with less, excellent street manners, strong performance and all on pump gas I was interested in going the BSE route. I had never built a engine before and was looking for advice from someone who had "Been there, done that". Ed's participation on this site in the past and currently on other sites has continued to be straight forward and consistant. That's one thing that I respect, and led me to go with the BSE.

Ed's current combo is using a comp custom full roller cam, rear gear?, 8" ATI convertor, worked over HP carb. Dont go thinking your going to match his performance just by putting an engine together, it the whole damn car that makes it what it is!!!!

Thanks for all the info ak69. I got a little confused with my three letter converters. ATI and TCI :D

I know I'll have the big things in check like you suggest. Thanks for writing such a detailed post. I'll post times and my small changes to the combo when I get it up and running.

Thanks, Marcus

Ed also uses the rectangle port Performer Rpm on Oval port heads,1/2"open space,1/2" 4 hole spacer. His rear suspension is a trick bolt in piece, but works. I'll also be using large oval ports,781's with his 2nd or 3rd gen solid billet roller. I just want a 10 sec. timeslip,no more,no less :D

Please consider building your motor for upper midrange and lower top end grunt b/c at what Ed's power level is, that's what he, (I BET), will tell you he has done, imho..

My 496 isn't near as max'ed out as his 468 is, but I still built it somewhat along his max grunt plan but at a lower rpm like 5500 rpm hp and 4500 rpm t levels which is more then adequate for me to play with, imho.......

Yes, it is in the motor and the car all working together tuned to the max to do like Ed is running.
