I was wondering what was too small for front tires for drag racing. My Nova will see frequent strip action so I wanted to get another set of rims and put a set of PepBoys Futura 165R15 with a 4-5.5in wide wheel and 275/50/15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Drag Tires with 8.5in wheels. Both tires are about 26in tall. I'm looking at the Centerline Auto Drags or Weld Racing Pro Stars but any wheel suggestions would be cool also. Are these front tires any good for drag use or would they just blow up??? What tires do you guys use for front runners that'll get you to and from the track???

Despite having 2 or 3 guys at LVD tell me, decent #'s for a street car, but ditch the p275's in front and you'll gain an 10th or 2..
Anyway-- There was some discussion I think it was here or I was on the phone with someone..
I think quite a few people for budget front runners use VW bug tires inflated to the max when they are at the strip.
IMHO, with *zero* experience to go on, you'd be hard pressed to blow up a normal tire during a, say, 16 second *maximum* run to 90, or even a 11 second run to near 120..
Long as they are in good shape and properly inflated.
Very much unlike the (very) used m&h racemasters I put like 12psi in not knowing better (heavy car) once I got going down past the 1000' mark I had time to reflect on things before I figured I was going to become one with a jersey barrier...
-- try a search in performance on the bug tires, it might of been here people were talking about them. Pat kelley maybe? not sure.

I run the 165's on the front of my Nova. It sees street and occasional strip duty. The picture should give you a good referance on how it will sit and look. Keep in mind that my car is slammed to the point I can't get a floorjack under the crossmember. The rears are 28x11.50x15 M/T ET streets. The wheels are 15x8 with 5 3/4" backspace. The wheelwells are stock but I did have to massage a portion by the framerail, near the front. It is fine except on tight cornering where the body rolls. I do get a very slight rub. I will go a hair narrower next time, maybe a 10.50. The rubbing might also be solved if I bring the car up a bit which I may do also. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

The color is Medium Quaisar Blue. It is a real light metallic and was use in the early 90's on Camaros, Vettes and Oldsmobile used it on the Cutlass Supreme (which is where I saw it). The paint job is now 11 1/2 years old.
