Argh, clicking back again. I tightened the headers yesterday and no love. It's a clicking/popping noise.

Definately happenening under the hood. I am going to go work on it while its cold. Who knows, maybe it's the collectors. i've got my fingers crossed.

But the thing does blow smoke when i start it up and it runs super rich, so i think the smoke is just unburnt fuel. I hope I didn't break anything.

The first time around (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168170), I could barely hear it while in the cab. However, this time around, I only hear it when I drive by another car and it reflects the sound into my car. or when I open the hood, it is definately coming from the passenger side.

My plan is to tighten the header bolts again and then tighten the collectors.

Should I run any other tests such as compression test for example?

Check the collector gasket also.
Sounds like a header manifold leak or collector leak.

Well i made sure all of the header bolts were nice and tight. And moved onto the collectors. they were very loose.

I tightened them up as well.

unfortunately the clicking is still there. if I go under the hood, i can definately hear it clicking. However, if I bring up the rpms, the clicking dissapears.

NOW keep in mind, it may still be there, it may be hidden under the sound of the fan or the engine.

Next step?

take a rubber hose and hold it to your ear.

Take the other end and move it about the car areas to pinpoint the noises...

Maybe your headers are tight up against something and vibrating against whatever it is.

I don't think that is it.

Would heater hose work? Or do I need something like surgical tubing or a vacuum hose?

Did you put new gaskets in or just tighten down the bolts?

I use just about any piece of hose/tube......
