Hey guys,
I mentioned that I broke the cam in about a week ago. Last weekend I re-installed the inner springs and took a very short test run of a mile or two. I was getting a lot of rocker clatter when I returned to the shop. It was late so I shut it off and went to take a shower. A little worried but not too much.
Last night I re-ran the valves and discovered that all but one were within .001 or .002 of where I had set them. One however was way off and guess what... I had not locked down the nut. graemlins/clonk.gif
Noise problem answered. graemlins/hurray.gif I fixed that problem and went for a longer test run. I didn't get on it very hard but definitely noticed more bottom end and mid-range. Don't know what the top end feels like 'cuz I never took it over 4K.
What really impressed me was the sound of the idle in gear. At 600 RPM this thing sounds like pure evil! The pop Harold talks about is definitely there! :D
I'll have more info as I get more time on it.
