Their is a metal bracket that is bolted above the license plate on a 69 held on with 2 bolts, and at the top of this bracket their is a slot for a rubber pad to slide in it. I seem to have misplaced my original, does anyone know were to locate this item?
If you have a 69 you can see the backside of the rubber pad above your license plate just behind your reverse back up light.

I had the same problem with a 69. I did modify one as you suggested. Just cut it down on a band saw or something similar and it will work and look fine. good luck. BOB
