...or any 64-66 with the bolted connection between the spring and the perch. What direction did you run the air line connection? It looks like the best way would be to put the bag in upside down with the nipple towards the top along with the 1/2" spacer and run the hose out through the upper spring perch or am I missing something completely?

How common is it to run only one bag on the passenger side or should I install both bags?

Thanks

Put the nipple down & find a place to run the
line away from your exhaust. I use only one
bag ( passenger side ) so my car goes straight
off the line. If your going to use it for racing
start with 8 lbs in the bag & work from there.

You should be able to put the bag in with the nipple down like Chitown said. The line can go down through the perch and mount in a hole (may need to be drilled out) on a bracket that goes between the housing and the lower control arm mount. This is the way I mounted it on my 67. I run both bags, but the left bag is empty right now. Sometimes I may add a bit of air to the left bag if I am on a good track and need some more RT. My passenger side bag has 7 lbs. YOu want to run the least amount of air possible to get the car to launch straight. Too much air pressure will work negatively against weight transfer. Also use a good pressure gauge to check the air in the bag, like one you would use on your rear slicks. A std. 0-50 gauge is not accurate down that low. Mine read 7 on a good gauge and 3 or 4 on a std. gauge.

Thanks for the replies!

The Air-Lift Drag Bags I bought have the air line nipple connection coming out of the end of the bag. The end of the spring that attaches to the rear end has a formed cup washer that uses a 1/2" bolt to locate the spring onto the perch. The air line nipple will interfere with the formed washer and bolt assembly. I'm thinking that if I reverse the bag assembly in the spring I might have enough room between the truck floor and upper perch to get the air line out.

Has anyone else experienced this and how did you make it work?

I think I'll try just one bag to start with.

That should work. The holes that mount the top of the shock on my car have stripped out. I use 1/4-20 nuts now and there is just enough room to get your fingers up in there to get the nuts on. I had no idea that 65 Chevelles located the bottom of the spring that way.

I'm interested in what you come up with. I'd like to put them in my 66 (have them in the 67).

Pat, I'll post a pic of what I come up with. Can't work on it till Saturday morning.

I was able to get the bag mounted upside down in the spring by using the 1/2" thk. spacer provided with the drag bag kit and running the hose out through the hole in the center of the spacer. The spacer provided enough room for the hose to bend out through the upper spring perch.

I was worried about the cup washer that locates the bottom of the spring rubbing a hole through the bag so I welded in a piece of 10 ga. that I cut to match the I.D. of the washer. I also cut off the head of the bolt and welded it to the bottom of the cup washer so that the bag side of the washer would be smooth.

Works pretty good ! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
