Okay rewiring my 72 velle.. Currently working on the tail section of the car.. Now the question: Each tail light socket has a ground wire, however the COMPLETE Painless Wiring kit only has one black ground wire and that is labeled "dome light ground".. Does this new kit have a need for each socket to be grounded? Am I suppose to buy some black wire and splice each socket into one? The directions really are not clear on what to do (or I may be just over looking it)..:confused:
As usual your help is appreciated!!!

Also is the "dome light Tail section" for a light in the trunk?? And is the "courtesy light" wire for the dome light inside of the car?

Well mine was $498 but it still chaps me when #1 I am neither electrically nor mechanically inclined but I do know how to read.. The instructions are suppose to be straight forward. But it is another one of those things when I finally have a free weekend to work on my baby and it gets postponed ONCE again cause I got questions and the manufactures are not open.

plug everything in, hook up all the grounds in the harness, and see if everything works.

I take it you don't have the original to look at while you do this.... I just got an engine harness (not from painless), and while it's a great harness, it would also be simple to tag what each end is for, making everyone's job a heck of a lot easier.
I'd get the wiring manual for the car - the colors used by Painless will be the same as the manual, and will help decode what goes where. I have it in front of me, and there is a ground wire on my schematic, at each tail lamp, at the fuel meter, at the license plate lamp, and at the rear backing lamp.
However, it looks from the wiring diagram that the wires that go to sheet metal are NOT connected directly into the painless wiring harness, but rather from the housings.
LH Tail lamp has wires coded Y and T (Yellow, Tan)
RH Tail lamp has wires coded DG and Brn (Dark Green, Brown)
The whole harness from the connector shows LG, DG, Y, BRN, and two T's.
Again, the black grounds seem to be from the rear side marker housings, not from the harness. Hope that made a little sense, I have a tough time following these electrical diagrams, they make my head spin sometimes.

"Am I suppose to buy some black wire and splice each socket into one?"
Yes you will need to ground each tail light bulb. You can tie them all together and make one ground connection or run separate ground wires for each bulb.
"Also is the "dome light Tail section" for a light in the trunk?? And is the "courtesy light" wire for the dome light inside of the car?"
White #979 is the power to the underdash (courtesy) lights and the dome light. Black #978 is the ground for the courtesy and dome lights. it will connect to the two door jamb switches and a connection at the light switch. The wire for the dome light are found in the trunk. They are orange and white, you can connect the white wire to White #979 and the orange to Black #978.
The trunk light is a green/black wire #946 but you can use white #979 if you want. GM used one wire to power the dome light and the trunk light.

Thanks a bunch for your help, I wasn't sure if the grounds had to go through any wires from the fuse panel or what...I HATE WIRING!!!! I make EVERYTHING so much more difficult than what it should be but I just don't want to screw anything up so that is why I ask all of ya'll for the advice:thumbsup:.. thanks again and at least now I will be able to at least get the tail section done before the ole work week begins!!
