dont you think the cam is a little large for the static compression? im calculating the dcr right at 7.00 .

i would imagine it would still run well and produce good numbers, after all it is a 454. but i think the extra money for a roller cam you would be better served getting the static compression up.

Brandon, I think the DCR calc's will be a bit iffy here only because the cam's profile is really mellow, to wit, it has the same seat durations as the solid I run, and 30 degrees less .050. That's one of the oddities about the DCR program. So it may not be that bad, but clearly a 87 octane motor. Plus they don't make a smaller HR at Crane!

Chris, thats alot of stall and gear for a low end mill, don't you think? Hell, what do I know, trying to launch a barge with a clutch! But still, seems like a nice 2800-ish stall would actually be better. Submit for your review, Sir!

IMHO,I think the cam would work well even with the low compression,Crane calls for 8.5 to 1 minimum..its 214/222 @.050 Obviously,a pair of closed chambered heads would really wake it up.Anyway,I know someone that has the cam NIB for $200.This motor/combo isn't for one of my rides, but a good friends 80 Malibu

i never paid much attention to the @.050 duration, i think you guys are right. im sure it will run well, and probably run on 87 octane.

a set of closed chamber heads would be a nice addition though!!

Mr 4 speed,

If you buddy hasn't already gotten set up for a roller, I have a new Crane Cam that's a little milder I'd let go cheap. http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/Purs/Cam-Card.jpg
