Runners maybe, but not the combustion chamber. Im thinking I heard they were generally in the 120cc range. Nothing in the years that these were built had a very small chamber. Im sure some guys here have used them, and had them cc'd. Maybe they'll chime in.

Kevin thanks for the help. I guess I need to ask a couple of other questions if you don't mind. Is the #360 casting a true peanut port and would anyone know the cc measurement of the combustion chambers? Thanks again for any help.
Mike
ps: Thanks John

It's a true pp head IF it's intake ports are wider than they are tall!!

And they range from 200 up to 230 or so CC's so you need to cc them.

Now, fwiw, there are true large oval heads that have 1.84" or 1.94" intake valves and 1.66" exhaust valves in them.

You just have to ream the seats out so the standard bigger valves fit is all!!

I am running the same casting, and yes, Exactly what Paul and John said. Wasnt sure what volume you were talking about. Most people like to point out first how SMALL the intake runners are so I figured that's what you were interested in.

If you are curious on performance, there is plenty to read on this sight. They dont "suck" IMHO as some would say, but they definitely wont hold up to a large oval (need to emphasize that before I get pounced on) like the popular 781 or 049 castings. For a "smallish" BBC (454 or less) that will never go past 5000rpm (mine actually start to go noticably soft at 4500), and if you are seriously budget minded, these are the best bang for the buck because people "cant give them away" or "use them for tire chalks" or "throw them in the trash"....

FWIW, Soon as I iron out some traction issues (install posi) and get some 1/4 time slips, I will be upgrading my combo (got that dang power bug) to larger heads and cam. For now, it's two tons of fun!

Just curious, what are you looking to build?

Kevin I have wanted to build one of these "Tow truck" motors for a while. I'm a believer in low rpm torque motors and it's all I have ever built. This would be the lowest rpm motor I've built. It will be a 454 probably as close to 9:1 as I can get it and I'm still studying on cams but it will be a single pattern solid. I believe I can get this motor (as a street motor) to out perform most of the pundits who yell about how much these PP heads suck. I like a challenge. LOL Thanks again to everyone for your help.

:hurray: Awsome... ought to be interesting for sure! Keep us posted. Hopefully I'll get my posi in this winter and post some results with my combo next spring. I'd love to compare notes with you when the time comes. Good luck!

P.S. I wonder if anyone on this site has some "tow truck" time slips?

"Tow-truck" motor, a man after my own heart!! He, He!!

I'd install a good pair of old closed chambered large oval -206's at 96.7 to 98 cc's on a 454 flat-top P/U motor's short block using .020" thick shims and a CC 260HE hy-cam!! You should be right at 9.2 or 3 to 1 CR!!!!!!

Or step it up a notch and onna Harold's old Ultradyne cam's here...

"272/217, 112/?, .515". The best hy-cam for pulling trailers, car-hauler or boats. Excellent bottom end and mid-range torque. Works power accessories. 1600-5500", per Harold.

PS., and I have a bare pair of -206's out in my garage just for a 454 BB work-engine like this later on..........

And please hunt up the spec's on my "tow-truck", 496 grunt motor if you want to!!
