I just bought a cam in a package deal with some big block heads and intake, and wanted to know if this cam would be too much.

It is a Lunati 00024LK, 292/292 duration and 230/230 @ .50 and .544/.544 lift with lobe seperation at 108*.

My motor is a 454 w/around 9.2-9.5 CR, ported 702 heads w/big valves, and performer intake.

I want have enough vacume to run my power brakes and need it for the turbo 400, will I be okay with this cam?

I am very new to big blocks, and was looking for a nice rumpty cam, but insist on keep the power brakes.

thanks as always

Oh, it should be plenty rumpity at 108 lsa! Don't know if it will run brakes well though. Anyone using a similar grind???

Woops! I ment 109* :(
My bad!

I just want to bring the hp of my 454 of 240 up to at least 400hp.

I picked up a recently rebuilt 78 454 (pick-up) and just bought in a package deal, a set of ported 702 heads, larger valves installed, performer intake, and this cam.

I hope the 97cc combustion chamber will bring my 8.0 CR up around 9.2 CR, and since this was a package deal, would like to use the cam as well, just as long as I can run my power brakes.

I am kind of on a head hunt, my neihbor tends to think his 66 GTA Fairlane is hot stuff, and would like to give him a run for his money. It is not stock, and pull pretty good, but would like to have a friendly grudge match, but one where I at least have a chance.

thanks 427S88
ps, that is my #1 favorite motor, well tied with the super rare ZL-1! :0)

I would love to build my other 454 to L88 specs, but I doubt that would run power brakes and run on pump gas, but whoa! What a tire roaster!!!!

i wouldn't see why a cam with 230@.050 duration would affect the vacuum on a 454 very much. a 350 it probably would, but not with a 454. that's a pretty good cam. i've ran the small block version of it a few times and had real good luck with it.

I was going to get my car started with a stock 350, but the big block bug bit me graemlins/clonk.gif

Imho, a 292 advertised duration cam in a about 9 to 1 CR motor is too big, even though it will run fine but NOT as good as it could if it had a 270 to 275 advertised duration cam in it!! Even up to a 280 grind??

OR the motor has at least 10 AND preferrably 11 to 1 CR!!!!!

I had about the same cam made by Melling in my 406 SB and it ran fine above 2500 rpm, but was on the cam below, cruising around town!!

My M-20 helped it but my 3.31's and 26.5" tall tires didn't!!

My wife used to really get po'ed when it would start ta bucking while idling/cruising in low gear in traffic on Main St. on Friday night years ago...

This is the main reason I'm into one step SMALLER cams now!! You know, pick the biggest right cam, look at one step bigger AND wish!! Then buy the two step smaller one then the bigger one AND be better off in the long run!!! But I'm not a "balls-out" sorta guy, either...
