: Opinions - which one should I sell ???
richr Oct 18th, 07, 1:11 PM It's time to sell one of my Chevelle's - problem is which one - I love them both so it's a tough decision. Those of you who know me know well about how I keep them and how meticulous I am with them those who don't here are some details - you can see the cars on my page in my signature.
The Mist Green 396 TH400 331 rear with A/C maintains 90 % of all of it's original parts, it's matching numbers, with a POP - it's an orig Calif car - in near perfect condition fully restored. Great orig car, has a grat owner history with video.
The Red car is a convertible SS clone from California in near perfect condition., 454, TH400, 12 bolt 342 gears - everything in the car is new - the trans, the engine and the rear, everything was replaced or restored, no screw or bolt left un turned.
Both cars had no sheet metal replaced they were rust free - and by the pics from the web page you can see that.
Problem is I love them both but one has to go - even though the red convertible is clone being how well the car was done I would assume the convertible would bring better money. The Red car is more fun to drive but the green one is an orig car and just a pleasure to drive in a different way.
So decisions decisions - sell the orig documented car or the replica convertible.
Thks
Rich
mr 4 speed Oct 18th, 07, 1:20 PM Rich, that is one tough call.
I would sell the convertible. You can always buy a cheaper 68-72 A body convertible to drive if you are into the convertible thing. The chances of finding another 70 SS like your green mist car would be very difficult IMHO
Original cars are awesome!
SebJr Oct 18th, 07, 1:33 PM Rich, that is one tough call.

I agree.... my 69 might be a cleaner, faster... more fun to drive car...... but it would be the first to go, can't compete with the mostly original , #s matching documented car :noway:
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Oct 18th, 07, 1:33 PM Green car will bring Better MONEY my friend.. TRUST ME ;)
chevelless1 Oct 18th, 07, 1:34 PM sell the convertible......didn't you just finish the car recently?
webfoot Oct 18th, 07, 1:39 PM A clone can be built another day... that green one is SWEET!
Stickman Oct 18th, 07, 1:40 PM >>This car is my dream come true - I had always wanted a brand new SS, <<
I think your quote from the feature link says it all... ;-)
You can always make another clone...you can't make another original. Good luck with your decision...
richr Oct 18th, 07, 2:14 PM Thks - guys it's a tough one for sure, but leaning towards selling the convertible. Now the big question - what do you think it's worth, I note the prices on e-bay have dropped these days - I was watching nice convertible clones go in the 70's at one point - seems they are barely breaking 60.
Rich
69396ss Oct 18th, 07, 2:24 PM Wow, I wish I had some money.....
I'm going to go against the grain here and say I would keep the drop top 454...
I'll also go against the grain and say in equal economies, the Vert will pull more. 40K is getting up there on 396's.
Put them both on E-bay with rediculous reserves and see for your self.
2nd Chance offer the highest bidder.
Let the buyers decide which one you sell. You may get an offer you can't refuse on one or the other. (vert)
BillsCamino Oct 18th, 07, 2:26 PM Sell the ragtop.
The SS they would have to bury me in!! I would never part with that car. Beautiful!!!
Freddy Mercado Oct 18th, 07, 4:05 PM It all depends on why you are selling in the first place. If you need "good" money, the green one is the one to sell. If not, if up to my, I would sell the red one first.
VinceS427bb Oct 18th, 07, 4:10 PM sell the convertable and keep the best one for yourself............
1970SS502 Oct 18th, 07, 4:53 PM Rich,
I have to go with the majority here. There is no way I would sell that green car. You have done a wondeful job keeping it pristine. I have a clone/custom and could build the same car whenever I wanted to. I can't build an original.
Silk_Hope Oct 18th, 07, 4:56 PM I hope your wife is not making you do it. Keep the 70 SS.
davewho1 Oct 18th, 07, 6:37 PM I'd keep the green one. It's too nice to let go.
dashboard Oct 18th, 07, 7:12 PM Your wife was right. Keep the green one!
alss Oct 18th, 07, 8:36 PM I feel your pain Rich..been thinking about selling my 70 too!!..kinda lost interest in it..just sits in my garage playing second fiddle to the COPO..need to build something I can drive....like another 69 and I have it already!!!..cant have three cars in the garage..can I ??
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Oct 18th, 07, 8:57 PM :D Seems we are all thinking and or doing the same thing Albert.. Mine is heading out too.. going to get another 66 SS.. just different thi stime around.
david_396 Oct 18th, 07, 9:13 PM Keep the coupe.
Dan Orgill Oct 18th, 07, 9:13 PM Rich, this is my take, FWIW. Take each car out for a drive, not just around the block, but a decent little cruise, down some roads with some good scenery. Just feel the car, get into the secondaries a couple of times;). Just have a nice relaxing cruise.
After you get home, think about which car made you feel better, maybe brought you back in time a little, or was flat out more enjoyable. That's the one you keep. That's my answer without really giving one.
But, for those who require a concrete yes or no, I'd sell the 'vert.
Just out of curiousity, why the decision to sell? If it's a private matter, no offence meant:noway:.
It'll be a tough decision no matter what. I hope to be in your shoes of owning 2 someday.
69396ss Oct 18th, 07, 9:49 PM I feel your pain Rich..been thinking about selling my 70 too!!..
Al, you'd be amazed how many people I've shown the picture of your 70 to and said if I ever hit the lottery, I was making you an offer you couldn't refuse.
You guys are killing me.
L7870_cortez Oct 18th, 07, 9:49 PM Sell both of them. Build another Clone or Buy one thats done. Put some money in the bank and enjoy life.
Mike

I totally agree, keep whichever one makes you feel better with the top down :)
BlueSS454 Oct 18th, 07, 10:44 PM cant have three cars in the garage..can I ??
Sure ya can, I have 4 :D :D.
Rich, as much as I've loved staring at the vert over the past couple years, I would not let the green car go. Those documented cars are hard to come by anymore with the way the fake documentation is going. You got that car before all that crap started happening to you know what you have there. I don't think you'll have a problem getting a good buck for the vert. It's red and the quality of the restoration on it is outstanding, 2 very good selling points. Not to mention it's got a big block in it :).
richr Oct 18th, 07, 11:26 PM Lots of good points guys, looks like the vert will have to go. I'll do one more show with it this Nov then will put her up for sale, it will be a sad moment but life takes different priorities and tough choices have to made.
Thks
BlueSS454 Oct 19th, 07, 12:44 AM What show are you going to take it too Rich?? If it's the one at Englishtown on the 10th, I might be going.
richr Oct 19th, 07, 7:56 AM Tom,
It's a Muscle Car and Truck show - Indoors in Ocean City Maryland, 11/10 - 11/11. Myself, Bill Rose and Stanley Kryla with our wives are going - something different to do. I think some of the cars and stars from Dukes of Hazzard are going to be there.
Rich
George Halpin Oct 19th, 07, 10:24 AM Rich - I like originality - I would keep the green car.
richr Oct 19th, 07, 11:01 AM Hello George,
I agree - I do as well.
Thks
Rich
69396ss Oct 19th, 07, 2:42 PM Here's what I think your looking at. Granted this say's LS6, but we all know how that's tossed around.

aso544 Oct 19th, 07, 5:42 PM Both are beautiful cars but the Mist Green is amazing. I'm suprised you even had to ask!!!!;) The convert would be down the road (with a slight tear) and the green coupe would be in the garage (with a big smile:D)!!!

SebJr Oct 19th, 07, 7:30 PM cant have three cars in the garage..can I ??
 Got the room?:D
67 Mark IV Oct 25th, 07, 12:15 PM I'd sell the red convertible because your green coupe could never be replaced , something you might regret in the future.
DOC1969SS Oct 25th, 07, 12:19 PM keep the original and sell the clone you can allways build another clone
droptop396 Oct 25th, 07, 1:04 PM Which car will give you the most pleasure if you keep only one?
The green Chevelle is awesome, who doesn't appreciate an original SS.
The Red Convertible also awesome, driving with the top down is hard to beat.
So,....which one will you drive, interact with and enjoy the most????
You can drive the clone until the wheels fall off if you wanted to. I doubt you would do the same with the original hardtop. Tough decision.
skryla Oct 25th, 07, 1:55 PM Hey Rich,
I can't believe I had to find out on TC that you are selling!
Anyhow, original is only once and getting harder to find.
You can aways build another clone in the future!
If you want to find out where your heart is, flip a coin! When the coin is in the air, you will know what you really want to do! It works EVERY time!
You never know though, things may level out and you may not have to sell either.
Just my $.02
richr Oct 25th, 07, 3:24 PM Definately a tough one - no doubt the convertible is way more fun then the green SS, but the green SS has it's originality and some sentimental value, and in a different way is fun to drive as well. So yup I'm still on the fence with this one. If the red one wasn't a drop top it would be an easy decision. Sure I could build another one but I'll never find a rust free convertible project as that one was ever again -they don't exist. Although some may disagree, the red convertible will bring more dollars then the green one. Lets face it a 396/350 auto car with air is just not as desirable - matching numbers or not. A convertible done nicely with a 454 is truly the cream of the crop, especially if a real SS.
I guess I'll put the red one up first around Nov - if the price is met the car will go, if not it stays home with me.
Thks Guys - all of you as always since 1999 have been a tremendous support help and fun, I'll keep you posted on the decision.
Rich
davoaz Oct 25th, 07, 9:13 PM no doubt the convertible is way more fun I agree, but I'm partial to verts as I got one with a BA motor too.
If ya want to tow and win shows I'd keep the green one.
If ya want to cruise some around town and have a car that won't give you heart burn ever time you get a chip in the paint keep the vert.
