Hi all: New member - 72 el camino - Title doesn't do justice as the headlight issue came up after I had fixed (???) a tail light turn signal issue. New car to me and the previous owner suspected a turn signal switch problem. I did the typical wiggle for sag and it seemed fine. When switched to the left, no lights - right, both lights blinked. Put new bulbs and a new flasher in. No help. Took apart the left side and could tell ther had been an attempted repair previously. dissassembled and re-did and had everything working, but now the headlights are messed up. Left one is on when on low beams - right one on with high. Having spent a couple of days reading forums responses, I suspect a ground got interrupted while I was re-doing the back but need some suggestions. (not at home right now, but am obsessing on it.) Obviously I'll recheck the grounds at the headlights when I get home, and can of course re-set the back to how it was, but.......Help!

since there are two filaments in each bulb, are you sure they are not just burnt out?

I'm not - and won't be home till sunday, but they were working till I repaired the tail light/turn signals. I'll check when I get home, just wondered if anyone had seen this before. Thanks.

is it likely that the bulbs just went bad? Has anyone seen this?

Was this a pre-existing problem that you just didnt notice until you finished fixing the turn signals? Or do you know that the headlights worked correctly and the turn signal fix broke the headlights? If the previous owner, "worked" on the harness, first thing I would do is check to make sure the plug-ins on the headlights are wired correctly. Could be a simple pin swap fix. Do you have wiring diagrams?

Don't have the diagrams yet, but have a chiltons coming - As we're down at the Father-in-laws and won't be back till Sunday, I'm just gathering info for then. given what I'm reading here, I thought I'd check all the grounds/headlight grounds and the filaments first. The lights were working properly until I fixed the back. Is the pin swap a common problem.... Thanks for the reply, if you can think of anything else, and or have a simple diagram for the heads that would be great!
