I was just wondering if I should run the front sway bar on my chevelle. I have been told that the car will run faster with it off . Is there any truth to this and if so " why ".

If your looking for the fastest track time then remove it, if you drive the car leave it on, you will enjoy the ride better.

Leave in place.. just take off the end links if you go to the track.

I was into the high 10's with my front swaybar and 30yo bushings up front. I didnt remove it until I installed the antiroll bar in the back. It aint no fun driving it with no swaybar at all.

im running a front and rear sway bar on my car and of course running regular street tires as well im turning in the low 12's with 1.8 60 ft times this might not be best for traction of course but i drive mine on the street more then the track.

I love to drag race mainly and never will road race but I did keep my front sway bar but then shortly after add a 1 1/4" sized aftermarket one and a rear 1" bar for stability reason. I want my chevelle to be more stable at high speeds.

I vote for you to keep it.

It went from no wheelie with it on, to pulling the left tire a couple inches off the ground with it off.

Yup, first time I rounded a corner w/o a sway bar I thought the car was going to roll over on it's side...

Put on a new thicker sway bar with new bushings and end links, MUCH better now. I even added a rear one too.

If you're driving on the street, keep it on. When you get to the track, unbolt the ends, so its not attached. The weight savings for total removal is probably not going to be real noticeable unless you're really fast.

I was a total drag race type of guy with no interest in cornering. I had my front and rear sway bars off for years and never thought anything about it. I kind of got used to the way the car handled (or didn't) on the street. Last month after reading an article somewhere I installed Hotchkis Extreme adustable swaybar front and rear kit. I don't know what I was thinking all of those years. The car is such a pleasure to drive and handles great. It bolted up to my jegster lift bar setup perfectly and it still launches great!

I've run mine at the track with the swaybar on and off. Made absolutely no difference in E.T. Just handled bad. It's an 1-1/4" bar from a WS6 Trans-Am.
