I purchase an aftermarket radio from Ashley's Chevelle parts. It is an Am FM. I hooked up the yellow wire to the battery as directed. I hooked up the red wire to the ignition. The only other wire is black which I assumed was the ground, however the wiring diagram shows it as hooking into the fuse box. Nothing I tried work. When I grounded the black wire I still had no luck. Any advise would be great. I have a 66 chevelle

Get your hands on a circuit tester...about 9 bucks from your local auto parts store. Ground the aligator clip and touch what you think is the hot lead. If it lites up you have power. I am not familiar with a 66 but you can also test for power at the fuse box. If your power source is running through the fuse location labled "radio,"do the same thing there and then trace the wire to the radio (not sure the correct wire color) and make sure you have power there. Always good to make sure ground is indeed grounded to bare metal. Good luck.

If it is a radio from Custom Auto Sound, it is critical that the speakers are hooked up correctly according to the instructions. I hooked mine up diferently and it wouldnt work, I called the manufacturer and they told me to follow the wiring directions EXACTLY for the speakers, something about power feed back.

Without the speakers hooked up it should still turn on either way.

You said RED goes to IGNITION. I hope you mean RED went to a fuse that has power with the key on, or your battery. Make sure wherever you have the red wire gets power with the key on. Yellow, stays on all the time.. and black goes to ground.

If you use a test light and have power at the RED and have a good ground the deck should come on. If not, there is something wrong with the deck. The yellow wire is just there to keep the time correct and to save your presets.

Big DI had run the positive wires to each speaker, then ran one ground wire and hooked it to both speakers, the light would not even come on, NOTHING.
The red wire goes to a switched fuse for power when the key is on, the yellow to constant power for the presets and clock.
Read the directions carefully.

The problem you had was that you wired you speakers incorrectly, which changed the independence, creating a resistance problem.

Postive and Negative Speaker wires should not affect whether a head unit turns on.

You can take a head unit, set it next to a 12 volt battery, touch the red to red, and black to black, and you should have power. I've done this several times in the past. Used to have a radio flyer and put a car battery in back of it, Two small speakers and a old am/fm tape player. That was my BoomBox. Also used to do the same thing at job sights.

There should be 2 fuses inside that little black box that is attatched to the stereo harness,
I think these are both 1/2amp or less fuses.
One of them is for constant power, the other is switched power (ign).
This little black box also contains a filter I believe----altho it don't work fer beans.
