I have a customer that bought a 67 Chevy 12 bolt rear end at a swap meet and hired me to install it in his '73 Chevelle. The Upper control arm "ears" are MUCH further apart on the 73 than the 67. The guys on Chevytalk.com said some made some control arms just for this swap but that they are out of business. CAn anyone help me here? Anyone know of a set of these bars or have another idea to get the thing in there. The car is on my hoist with no rear end in it so any help would REALLY be appreciated. Thank you ! Tom Joyce

Tom,
I think SSM made control arms for this swap but they are long gone out of business. :(
Far as I know it is not a bolt in. Although the 67 rear end is worth way more than a 73+ rear.
The 73 rear is 73-77 models. Probably more than that.

seems like a lot of work for a minimal gain in strength.
tell your customer to sell the 12 bolt, and use the $$$ to buy a set of gears and a posi for the 8.5 that came in the car.

He doesn't figure the 8.5 will hold up to the big block he is having built so he wants a 12 bolt. Myself, I don't think a Chevy 12 bolt is all that great either but the customer is always right you know.

But as mentioned, the 8 1/2" 10 bolt is almost as strong.

Exactly what I was thinking. People think 10 bolts are junk but with a some aftermarket parts. They can be bullet proof. He would be a lot wiser doing that or going with a bolt in aftermarket axle. The money waisted on trying to ruin a 12 bolt for this is not worth it when they are quite valuable to the 66-67 crowd. Especially if the rear is still stock.
