I just got my pistons and pressed pin (Eagle H Beam) rods back from assembly at a local machine shop. I noticed that the pins are not exactly centered in the pistons. They are still entirely inside the pistons pin bosses but approx. .150" off center.
I assume this is not ideal, but is it anything I should be concerned about?
If so, how concerned should I be? I know that in a proper install they heat the rod end to reduce the amount of force/stress needed to install the pins. From what I have read, pressing the pins out of the pistons is a stressful proceedure and pistons/rods/pins are sometimes damaged when pins are pressed out. Should I request that the shop center the pins or do I do I have substantial risk of damage if I ask them to do so?
If they need to be centered, should I have the shop press them all the way out and re-install or should they just press them in the additional .075" or so that is needed to center them.
Thanks, Joel
