: Best Drag Race song.......
Ron454 Dec 31st, 04, 12:34 AM Was in the basement listenig to the stereo at ear splitting levels, and remembered that I hadn't heard one of my favs in awhile.
Frank Marino and Mohagany Rush, an album called What's Next. Get this, it's from the mid/late 70's and on the cover is a Dodge Shelby??? Charger??? with a Hemi, a pro-stock car.
The song is called Finish Line, a true drag race song.
Any of you old guys remember this?
Awesome hard rock album. Awesome.

70chevelle15 Dec 31st, 04, 1:27 AM Hey man "Highway Star" byDeepPurple
and "Radar Love" are my favorites to jam down the road to. May not be true drag racing songs but they still kick A##!
Ron454 Dec 31st, 04, 1:36 AM There ya go! Highway Star....."Aint no body gonna beat my car, gonna break the speed of sound!
Yeah it's a killer machine, it's got everything!"
Gotta love Deep Purple...and Golden Earing.
I just might have to go crank those up as well.........
Thanks!
Ron
chevelledude71 Dec 31st, 04, 1:57 AM I like "Fuel" by Metallica and just songs for cruising since you didn't ask; THE EAGLES. My favorite cruising song by them is HOTEL CALIFORNIA. Nothing like a cool breeze through the window and the tunes on the radio.
Jesus built my HOTROD, by the Butthole Surfers is a favorite of my buddy. He's sitting here giving me his songs. That is a song you would really, really have to like to listen to over and over. I've heard it and don't like it, but he doesn't like Guns N' Roses and I love me some GNR. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Ron454 Dec 31st, 04, 2:24 AM Very nice Chevelle Wallace.
My buddy and I were just talking about the butthole surfers.....
Ron
chevelledude71 Dec 31st, 04, 2:48 AM Ron,
That Nova looks badass just sitting in the driveway.
Thanks for the comment about my Chevelle. I love Nova's too, I have a 74 GTO that is called a Nova all the time. Well, it's been sitting for two years, but I need to get it back on the road. I hope I can get that looking like your Nova. Yeah, the Butthole Surfers are some characters that is true...but so is my buddy. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Ron454 Dec 31st, 04, 3:34 AM Well thanks Wallace!
Right now it's no-ass sitting in my GF's garage.
But soon to be more badass'er....I hope.

Can't sleep.. VERY rough holiday..

Ron454 Dec 31st, 04, 4:10 AM Matt,
What's so rough?
Hope it's fixable.
I knew a guy who named and painted his Camaro "No Control" which was a song by Eddie Money.
I always thought that was cool.

Harold Sutton Dec 31st, 04, 11:07 AM "Little old lady from Pasadena" as was good "Shutdown" and "Dead mans curve". Liked "I can't drive 55" too. "Green Onions" by Booker T always reminds me of "American Graffiti" which was the most period correct of all the yesterday flicks as it captured the akwardness that surrounded my growing up. Slowdude Jan 1st, 05, 7:43 PM Here are the songs that always add at least 10 mph to my speedometer and make me think I am undetectable to police. If I saw the blue and red's while listening to jailbreak, I can't guarantee that I would pull over until the song stopped because that song also drops my IQ by at least half. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Hendrix - Voodoo Child
The Who - Won't get fooled again
Foghat - Slow ride (Always makes me think of the ending scene in Dazed and Confused with the helicopter view of the black 70 Chevelle flying down the open road)
Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive (just kidding) graemlins/clonk.gif

SILVERSS454 Jan 2nd, 05, 1:03 AM "Headin' Out To The Highway"- Judas Priest

70chevelle15 Jan 2nd, 05, 1:18 AM Pretty much any AC/DC Album will make you want to drive fast. For me the best would be: Let there be rock, Back in Black, and Flick of the Switch. Buy any one of these cd's and put them in your car, crank up the volume, and just try to drive slow, you'll be speeding without even realizing it. HAHAHA!
pro785racr Jan 2nd, 05, 4:01 AM I have to say for cruising on a friday night the best songs would have to be Free Ride by The Edgar Winter Group and Tush by ZZ Top are some of my favorites

wyatt Jan 2nd, 05, 4:25 AM You guys have mentioned a lot of the songs on the Dazed and Confused soundtrack. Most of them are great driving songs for me. I actually went and made the soundtrack the way it should have been made, and added songs that were in the movie but not on the soundtrack. It's much better. Also put them in the order in which they play in the movie. Good stuff.
Springsteen, Racing In The Streets, from the Live album. No question.
70chevelle15 Jan 2nd, 05, 5:16 PM Hey isn't that the song where he says he's got a 396 with Fuelie heads, Hehe, nice going Bruce
Sid Coleman Jan 2nd, 05, 5:37 PM Very suprised no one mentioned Forigner's "Rev on the Red Line". "Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat-hear my motor screamin as I'm tearing up the street!".
Some very good ones here-also another vote for Sammy Hagar's "can't drive 55". Springsteen's "Born to Run" always makes the right foot go down a little harder too!
Pony Hunter Jan 2nd, 05, 6:03 PM Jerry was a Racecar Driver, drove so goddamn fast. He never did win no checkered flags, but he never did come in last...
Jerry was a racecar driver, 22 years old. One to many cold beers one night and wrapped himself around a telephone pole.

Jesus Built My Hot Rod is by Ministry not the Buttholes - FYI smile.gif I used to have the T-shirt, had a picture of a Hemi motor on the front and "No man with a good car needs to be justified" on the back.
1 - Dazed and Confused soundtrack - all of it.
2 - Led Zep - Trampled under Foot, Wanton Song, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love etc etc
3 - "Heavy Metal" Don't recall the artist. Anyone remember this from the movie in '79 ? "You can hedge your bet on a clean corvette...." This one is slow but has a killer beat and that oh, so 70's guitar.
I really prefer the "period correct" stuff from muscle car era.
Over and out.

The one that is on the sound track is the good one.His voice was really "ON" that day.
He even admitted it in a radio interview I heard many years ago.I loved that version of the song.
It always seemed like the Hampton version was missing something. After that interview I knew what it was.

Hey - as long as it isn't RAP I can listen.
Troy.
Rain Man Jan 5th, 05, 5:33 PM Come on guys. You're throwing in good songs that are not race songs. Here's truly an oldie, 1963, but the best drag racing song where the theme is REALLY about racing and not just glorifying a car has to be 'SHUTDOWN' by the Beach boys.
Another true race song is by Jan and Dean called 'DEAD MAN'S CURVE'. Still another good car song but not much "racy" written by Brian Wilson and popularized by Bruce and Terry is 'CUSTOM MACHINE'. Hey, I like Guns n' Roses too!
However, I prefer Smash Mouth or Sugar Ray.
