Hello All.

Not really new to old iron. We currently have a 70 and a 72 GMC pickup, a 45 Ford N tractor. 2 of them are actually in decent shape(grin). I've worked (shade-tree) on mid 60-late 70 GM cars out of necessity. Last car I worked on was a 84 tempo and swore I'd never do that again.

We recently bought a 68 Chevelle/Malibu. What's the difference tween the 2 models?
Mechanicals seem to be in decent shape. The seller claimed the rebuilt 327 has 5000 miles. It does run smooth, but does have a slight hesitation from standing start that I aint worried about. He also claimed the new TH350 tranny can handle up to 800hp. Of course he can't provide paperwork to support it. It had a Hurst slap shift but the wife couldn't figure out how to work it, and had me castrate it. I put in a factory looing console and floor shifter. There just has to be a place that sells "user friendly" shifters.

The body will need paint in a few years. The under body needs help. Trunk and floor should be replaced. The interior is there. It has seats and carpet, and a headliner. Does this site recommended vendors.

Still getting acclimated to this site. Seems like a bunch of decent people w/a common hobby.
Does the search function work in each board? or is it 1 big picture thing?
Im hoping to help, and have fun, where I can,
.....don t. .....

Welcome. Where in IL are you located?

The stumble/hesitation off the line may not be enough initial timing or the accelerator pump. I would check the timing first. Do a search for "Ignition 101".

Hello and welcome Don. As far as vendors go, try the sponsors of this site. It also depends on what you're looking for.

The search function will have different responses from different forums.

Also try posting questions on the different sections that pertain to your topic. Not everyone on this site will read this section.

Chevelle and malibu are different in their level of trim. In 68 the malibu was the starting point for the malibu and SS options. The chevelle could get the 300 series and 300 deluxe.

Rand and Central, huh? My parents (where I grew up) live on Rand & Wolf, right by Little Villa. I live near Golf and Busse now. That is a long commute.

What's Paw Paw?

I used to live in McHenry (east side of the Fox) and worked in Wauconda. I grew up in Mt. Prospect, on Elmhurst ave. 3 houses from the NW RR tracks.
Anyway.........WELCOME!
