I know the center cap is kind of corny but that could be fixed pretty easy, Otherwise, What do you think? I am interested id 17x8 & 17x9 if you are wondering.

Thx.

On almost any chevelle I feel a black wheel detracts from the car. For me it tones it down not lighting it up. I would suggest any # of chrome 17's that have been used with great success by so many members here.

But the guy writing the check gets to make the decision.

I like the other wheel you are (or were) considering a little better. The more rounded spokes on it suit the '70 better IMO. This one has sharper lines - I'd like to see these on a lowered '64-65...

I'm almost dreading wheel shopping - it's hard to pick a style w/o seeing it mounted with tires. At least to me it is

Good luck :beers:

I think the wheels with the more rounded spokes would enhance the look of your '70. We are also considering black centered wheels for our '70. The final paint, if we ever get there, will be Mist Green with no stripes, no vinyl top and minimal chrome trim. We have been considering the Foose Nitrous in 18x8.5 and 18x10. Check them out and good luck with your search. :)

I think black wheels are a fad and some day you will regret spending your money on them. Chrome/polished wheels look much better, IMO.

What color is your car, or do you have a pic? I like dark wheels on cars with Cortez silver or Shadow grey, of course, I'm partial to dark wheels-see sig pic.

Man, you already have a classic set of wheels on your ride. You have a classy total package there. I wouldn't change a thing unless you can get those slots all the way under your wheel wells.
Are you changing them for brake clearance or something? Your car is sweet.

The rounded spoke wheels are not available in a 17 X 9 with 0 offset so I was looking at other options. Here's a pic of the car as it is.

Everyone has an opinion.
I think the slots and white letters went out with disco and bell botttoms. I for one think those wheels would look awsome on your white Velle. If not the black ones.....get the polished ones instead. I also don't like the Hot Wheels logo otherwise I would grab a set for my Elco, they are priced pretty affordably.

JMHO, leave it the way it is, or get some different 15's to replace the slots. 17's and bigger are for ricers.:D

Some Chevelle's look pretty good with big wheels, and I think the black would look good. Big chrome wheels are a little to bling bling on old muscle for me, again JMHO.

A set of 17" rims are by now means bling bling......???

This has been an ongoing debate for a looonng time on this board. Someone brings this up every few months. The fact that 17" rims are meant for ricers is so absurd. This is one of thoses debates that will never be settled. Its called hot rodding for a reason. You have to look outside the norm. If everyone had the same looking Chevelle, Nova, or whatever, with the same style paint and rims etc., then it would be quite boring when you pulled into a car cruise.
I have a friend that just finished his 69 Chevelle. He hasn't had a muscle car since the 70's. He wanted to put a Crager or aluminum slot rims on it. A bunch of us convinced him to go with Coys. he ended up with a 17x8 front and 18x9.5 rears. he couldn't be happier the way the car truned out. BTW.....he is a 53 year old biker looking guy:D.

Those Coys wheels look awesome on that 69! I think they would look great on a 70,also.A white one with black stripes!!!
Brian is that 69 dropped or is it the larger wheels that give it the appearance of a lower stance? Looks like stock amount of ground clearance.

Chelkamino - What do those rims go for $ wise? I was looking at the wheels I was because they were pretty reasonable. I could get into rims & tires for around a grand. I am planning drop spindles & lowered rear springs to get it a little lower. It handles like a 37 year old car now & would like it a little better. The slots will not tuck unless I go with quite a bit smaller rear tire.

I like the "Hotwheels" 17s, but I'm not a big fan of black wheels. I prefer polished, or go with the black, and paint the face of the spokes silver to replicate the look of the original 69-70 "SS" wheels.

17's and bigger are for ricers.:D...and people who want to go fast, if you're into that sort of thing. :o

I am planning drop spindlesDrop spindles WILL NOT help the handling. Camber curves need to be corrected, and the most cost-effective, and best low-budget option is a Stage II+ package from www.scandc.com combined with a stiffer lowering spring.

If you insist on stock springs (which are far too soft) and drop spindles, look into the drop spindle from Heidts, and aftermarket upper A-arms (again SC&Cs are the best value on the market).

I guess my thinking was it sits so high now anything I do to lower it & improve the rubber will be a big improvement over what I have now. I realize it won't be a "slot car" as some people describe. Just want a different look, Thought I would get the wheel thing figured out & go from there.
I still am not 100% sure I am going to do this as the car gets lots of good comments whenever I drive it the way it sits, A lot of people remember when damn near every chevelle had slots or SS's and Hijackers in the back so I'm on the fence yet.

Thx.

Its pretty much stock ride height except for the big block in the front with small block coil springs.

I'm old school, and more partial to a 15" wheel combo, but in the spirit of this thread, I'm not keen on the wheels you're looking at. However, the Coys or a set like Derek's are a different story, as they both look killer ( 17" would be my choice ).

GO 18's :yes:Unless the brakes require a bigger wheel, I'd stick with 17s.

68-72 require a fairly short tire (~26" tall) to be able to really lower a car without rubbing with stock inner-fenders. Going with 18s would result in a very short sidewall, or a higher stance to keep tire clearances in check... too short of sidewall makes the wheel succeptable to damage from potholes, and the higher stance doesn't go well with the look of the bigger diameter wheels.

17s are big enough for most 13" brakes (I run C5s), and allow a tall enough sidewall while keeping the car driveable when seriously dropped. (my front crossmember height is 3.5" :) )
