Hey guys...
As you can see in the pic, the front of my car sits kinda high. I talked to the owner before me and he said it sat lower untill he put lakewood 90/10's on it. My question, can i lower the front by cutting the coil springs, if so will this affect the 90/10's in any way? I would like the car to have a lower/more agressive stance.

shocks don't raise the front end. You can cut the coils,,,too much and you'll be dragging the oil pan after they settle. Just put the motor in it smile.gif

one easy way to find out if the shocks are binding it up (i doubt it)....remove them.

Drop spindles from supirior...if you dont have a disc brake setup, now would be a good time to upgrade, outside of the spindles the cost is very minimal

The Motor is in it, in the picture it is not. It lowered about 2 inches when the motor was put in, but still sits high.

I never said the shocks were binding?!?!?!?....

So anyway...what should i safely cut? i dont want it dragging on the ground...

I don't know how tuned your suspension is but cutting a coil will make your front springs stiffer. Best way to lower the nose is to use lowering springs, or as mentioned earlier drop spindles.

put 6 cyl springs in it, dropped the front of my car and helps with the weight transfer.

Were the front springs changed out? It does sit unusually high. I think 66chevyIISS has a good idea about installing 6 cyl. springs or you might try Moroso Drag springs. If you decide on the Moroso's you will need to have the weight to get the right ones.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears to be a SBC w/iron heads, steel hood - guessing that nothing has been removed under the hood to save weight right? How low do you want it? A set of Moroso small block drag springs might come close but you'll probably have to cut 1/2 to 1 full coil out of them depending on where you want it to sit. When my car used to have the small block in it (no a/c), steel hood, moroso drag springs for SBC (uncut) with 2" drop spindles it sat pretty low. I could just barely get a jack under the crossmember. HTH..

Yes its a SBC iron heads, steel hood just no inner fenders or heater. I'm going for brodix heads this winter which will be less weight, and a cowl hood. Right now the car is stiff, and if i lower it i was scared it would get sloppy/loose. I don't mind about stiffness because its very stiff now with the 90/10's.

The cheapest thing you can do now is just take an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel on it and cut 1/2 coil off your springs and see if you like it's stance??

You probably will need to install a bolt to hold the coil ends position since it won't be in the right spot with respect to the other end tho..

And keep on cutting 1/2 a coil at a time until you like the height!!

Moroso Drag Springs (the light ones) uncut with 2" drop spindles will put it about that height with the steel hood & iron heads.

If you go with just a spring cut, that front end height you're looking for will put the lower a-arm bump stop almost on the frame FYI.
