I currently have a crate 350 in the car and i am now going to put a 454 big block in. Im just looking for some info on what needs to be changed. Example motor mounts, shocks, springs, What im worried about is that the car also has a powerglide in it. Will i need a new crossmember for the car if i put a TH400 in.
Any info will help

You can use the same motor mounts. Even the front coil springs will work. I kept my 6 cyl. springs in my el camino. the truck sits real low but has excellent weight transfer. As far as the trans mount, just move the trans mount futher back and drill new holes. good luck with you project.

Another TC member, Gene Callahan, has a TH400 in his '66 Conv, which uses the same crossmember as the El Camino. He cut the trans mount off of the front of the crossmember and welded it to the backside at the same level. In doing so, he was able to re-use the stock crossmember and frame mounts. HTH
