My convertor is said to be a 2200 stall. My cam in my 461BB has specs of 5.27/5.44 lift and 2.24/2.34 duration @ .050 with 110 lobe sep.My question is what effect does the stall have on the idle qualities? Will a higher stall give a smoother transition from park to drive to idle tendicies. Mine seems to need to idle at 950 or so to be able to "drop" in gear and be at about 650 in drive and even that seems to low.

Am I making sense the way I descibe this?I guess I'm wondering if I need "more" stall to get better idlebility.

Thanks for any help..Ps this is in a 700r4 tranny.

A higher stall converter will not put as much drag on the engine at idle. If you have a 2200 stall converter, going to a higher stall won't help your idle.

The drop you describe is pretty normal especially if you use manifold vacuum to the distributor.

Thanks,Mike.
I am running idle vacuam to dist.I'll try putting it to the other port on the carb and see how it does...

Actually going to a higher stall will help. I just went from a stock converter last night to a 2800 and it fixed the park to drive problem that I have had for several years with 2 different motors and 3 different carburetors. The low stall of the stock verter was just dragging the motor down. Now instead of 1,000-600 it drops from 900-700 graemlins/hurray.gif I think you need more like a 3,000 or 3,500 stall. Im not one to recommend though, ask the people who build them for a living, or a more knowledgeble TC'er like Steve Oldani.
