64 elcamino

My son is looking at buying a 65 Elcamino. It has great glass, no rust that i can see, maybe a little on the dash near the windshield, (I forgot to check the rear glass) and a rebuilt 327. The drvers side quarter has a big dent that probably can be pulled out. No carpet, no door panels. The guy put disk brakes up front, new suspension, new master cylinder. A couple of pieces of trim around the headlights is missing. And some chrome flaking on the bumpers. The pain isnt bad but it has a few chips and after body work will probably need a repaint. He's asking $4,000 is that a fair price. Thanks in advance MIKE Sorry if this is in the wrong place I'm new

Mike look for the hiden rust. That's much more important than what you see on the surface. Slide under the car and look at the floorboards , look at the well that makes the smugglers compartment at the front of the bed, and ESPECIALLY the frame. Sheet metal can be repaired but a rusted frame usually brings about the death of a project. Once the frame is rusted there is typically little usefull of the rest of the car. The floors and corners of the glass, bottom corners of the front fenders, and around the rear wheel hous are the typical 'bad spots' for rusting Camino's
You can replace the entire interior (carpet to headliner, door panels, seat covers / foam,, everything) for around a grand. The stuff missing from the front of the car is pretty easy and readily available. The rear bumper is GOLD, you will unlikely even find a core to have straightened and rechromed at a reasonable price.
With all the bad said... $4k doesn't sound too bad to me for one that is this complete and in what 'sounds to be' great shape for a 64. I paid the full appraisal value of $3800 for my fathers 67 project. There was about 1.5 sq. ft. of rear floorpan that needed replacing, and I just found some poorly repaired rust in the dash, but otherwise 100% sound and rust free Az. car. It came with a LOT of resurection parts, and a fresh 327 / TH350, all new OPG interior package in boxes, new wheels and tires, new SS hood, etc. (look at the techno-resto project link in my signature)
So $4k sounds pretty fair for what you describe,, but that's just my opinion
