Im picking up my 396 today! Replacing my solid roller 489 tongue.gif Just putting it in the car to sell it.
Just a couple quick q's

1st - Motor is rebuilt to 1966 325hp specs. How much power did these motors really make?

2nd - I have a rect. port ls6 manifold. Is it adaptable to oval port heads?

3rd -, is there anythingthing I can do to wake it up at all? Cam maybe?(Im looking more for sound here, I want a real pop and lump.)
I have my old ls6 solid cam in the shed, is that to big?

Motor is getting a 750vs holley, and 2" headers (I know, I know, but its what I have laying around) graemlins/beers.gif

The rect port intake will work, just use rect port gaskets...

For the cam, you could probably put in the old LS6 cam if its in good shape...

I picked up a Cam from PAW (SuperStock?). It was the most radical hydraulic grind they advertised (in the magazine ads). It has similar lift and duration to the LS6/L78 but is a hydraulic, and was inexpensive. It worked for years (similar to yours, I was looking for a radical sound on an engine I was selling... I ended up keeping the motor and drove it for 4+ years...

I was also running the 750VS holley and 2"+ primary headers... AND factory rectangle port heads (about 9.0:1 CR). No problems with driveability or power, although I am sure it wasn't maximized...

Cam change. The 325 HP cam is extremely mild. Just about anything you put in there will be better. With a stock 396 I would get an oval port manifold you don't need the extra volume of the rec. port. Really think about a Q-get. Mild oval port motors usually run much better with them.

Nothing more then a good old CC 280 Magnum, IF she is at 10 to 1 CR., should put it close to 375 to 385hp, inho...
