driver Oct 12th, 07, 3:01 AM Congrat's! Car is running some real nice numbers for having a 3.42 gear.
Tom Mobley Oct 12th, 07, 3:04 AM pretty excellent results for a first try, especially those 60' times. from the pic it looks like you're up for a rear anti-roll bar or an air bag in the right rear. Your 60s will improve if you can work out some of those details.
Leon,
I clicked on your profile.......are you really 70 years of age??
I want to be able to run 11's with wheels up when I am 70. That is incredible!!!!
dadeo-3 Oct 12th, 07, 8:44 AM Low 11's with a 3.42 gear.......impressive! :)
Stripey Oct 12th, 07, 9:09 AM anything done to the suspension? im also impressed with the 60' with the 3.42s
Jeff65SS Oct 12th, 07, 9:32 AM Guys, yup he's 70. Leon is my Dad and we had alot of fun that weekend! I had more fun watching his runs then actually running my car.
He and I have both learned alot on how to make these chevelles work well by hanging around Team Chevelle. Thanks to all!
BTW, he spanked me on a heads up grudge match. Even cut a better light then me!

oldtimer Oct 12th, 07, 12:03 PM thanks guy's i do have a air bag in rr,boxed lca umi adj uppers std monroe shocks, the front suspension is stock,i 0nly had 7 lbs in the air bag on that 1st run, didn't like to see the body twisting, went to 10 lbs that helped, may need more next time.
if jeff65ss gets a little more bite,i think i'll be in trouble.
thanks Leon
Rmchevelle Oct 12th, 07, 1:07 PM Congrats, Leon! Neat car, love the color combo! Cragars do withstand the test of time and your car shows why. Is this the first trip to the track for you, ever? What's the specs on the cam, is it a roller?
oldtimer Oct 12th, 07, 2:53 PM RMCHEVELLE, i made about 3 runs with this chevelle last year w/396 & street tires, 14.30 @ 98.00 mph befor that about 20 yrs ago. the cam is a lunati hyd roller part # 54849lun 232in 242 ex .578 in .595ex with cam i was able to use the valve train that came with the 502 delx kit, i know it will go way past 6000, mistake on my part!
thanks Leon

victtor Oct 13th, 07, 1:02 AM Very impressive times with the 3.42 gear ,there is hope 4 me with my 3.42 gearset ,just as a matter interest anyone out there gone low 11 sec with 3.42 or simlar gearset with either 26 inch tall or 28 inch tall drag radial thanks
Jeff65SS Oct 13th, 07, 4:01 PM The only one I can think of is Tom Baird (MC71454) who was running well into the tens with a 3:42 gear in his Monte. I'm pretty sure he was running bias ply slicks or street slicks though.
On oldtimer's first pass (the 1.61 60') the car dead hooked and picked the left front about 3-4 inches. He added some air to the rr bag which helped cut down on the chassis twist.
I'm thinking that the 28" tall tire will work better than the 26" from what I've read here. Thats if you can get them to fit. I can't get them onto my 65.
