The plan for my velle -66 is to make a weekend warrior with potential to get in the 11's at the 1/4 mile. My signature show how the car is know.
I'm planing to build a 454 with large ovalport openchamber heads and switch the M20 for a TH 400.
This is what i have in the garage: 454 block 2 bolt that had to go 070 over(makes 468 cui smile.gif ) 4,00 steel and crossdrilled crank, 7/16 6,135 rods with floating pins, 820 heads with 2,19/1,88 ss valves and no portwork yet,RPM intake, 1 3/4 headers and 2 1/2" dual exhaust and H-pipe. HEI ignition with Pertronix flamethrower upgrade kit. And the TH 400 is already in the garage. The car has a 12 bolt rearend and a 3,90 gear with posi. Planing to get KB pistons 207 to get 10 to 10,5 comp and a Carter 172 gph mech.fuel pump. I have also looked at a ATI 10" treemaster converter.
Any advice about the combo would be nice, and I need help to pick a carb and a real good cam for this combo, mybee a solid or perhaps a solid roller would be nice :D I would like this engine to have real good tourqe and a max rpm of 6000 to 6500.

Yeah, I'm knocking on 11.99 with a manual gearbox, and one good racer here, Ken Jett, went deep into the 11's with one, and , well, physics took its toll and metal started to break. Glad to hear that "slushbox" is in the garage. For racing, that T400 is a better fit.

You can likely get your mid 11's with a solid flat tappet, while a solid roller will pick it up even more. There are many here with a setup similar to yours. You might want to run searches here in the performance forum for some combos.

The 820s aren't the best head, but still should get you solidly into the 11's. I'd opt to stay on the bigger side of the cam specs.

Off the cuff, with your compression, a SOLID cam with something like 247/252@.050 or a bit more with those 820 heads, like 250/260@.050 on a 110 or tighter lobe separation would fit the bill.

Which manufacturers are easiest for you to get in Sweden?

I run the 820 heads on my 461,only chamber work I had to do was unshroud the intake valve maybe 1/16" exhaust was already unshrouded because of the lay back area on these heads.I used speed pro H581P and came out to 10.7 comp.I use the 288/296F10 specs 255/263 @50 612/630 lift,to get the dcr down to 8.3 runs great on 93 octane.I ported the heads myself I didn't have anything else to do over the winter, and gasket matched them because they were off a bit from the intake.Do a search on Chris_69_ss he runs the same cam turning low 11's and he has a video so you can here it at idle.He made 605 hp with a 750dp on the dyno, good luck. graemlins/waving.gif

Thanks for the reply's!
There would be no problem to get stuff from Comp cams, Crane, Isky and Lunati. There's local companys here that are specialiced in to import parts for american cars and racing. And I have also order parts myself from Summit at their homepage.( works mint smile.gif ) Summit even had a discount code for overseas customers in august !

What I have to decide it's exactly what camshaft I want an order that partnumber. My english is'nt that god so I think talking to the cam manufactures tech. lines would be a problem for me. Thats why I posted here to get god advice of which cam would match my combo. So more input would be needed..

Lunati!? You can get Lunati? Well, you might be in great luck Stefan. The new chief cam designer there, Harold Brookshire, visits this board on occasion, and can probably provide you personalized tech right here. I don't think you need to look any further than the bb288/296F10 or bb288/296F8 for a solid flat tappet. roller, I don't know, but the bb276/284R10 seems right.

I'll ask Harold to drop by this post and chime in with recommendations. Think I would personally go a bit larger with those heads. It's my UNDERSTANDING, not personal experience, that he 820s are a bit smaller port than some ovals, and therefore would likely match up with a slightly bigger cam profile than , say 049s/781 or aftermarket ovals.

Gene, that would be so great ! graemlins/hurray.gif graemlins/hurray.gif

I have made some searches on this board as you sugested and THE cam to get seames to be one of Mr. Brookshire's design.

So if you can get Harold to chime in and give a recommendation and what partnumber to order, I for shure would get a Lunati cam.

Thanks in advance !

God dag, Stefan!

If your 454 is over 10:1 CR, the BB288/296F10 will work very good with a 3000 SS converter and a 3.90 rear gear. Make sure your fuel line is 1/2"(13mm) #8 from fuel tank all the way to the carburetor.
I have never seen less than 550 BHP with this set-up, and most are around 590-610 BHP.
I do not have a Lunati part number yet, but if you will send me an E-Mail, I will send the new part number to you within 2 weeks.
My E-Mail address is brookshire@panola.com

Thanks for your interest... I have several Swedish customers, and we normally deal through faxes and E-Mails....

UDHarold, that's good news !

I will send you a e-mail with my e-mail adress and with the details of the new combo.

Thank,s for the advice about the fuel line. I want this combo to be real good and my intention is to build it properly from the start.

There's some local guys around here that's in the 1/4 mile business with theirs chevelles and camaros and they use Cranes or Comp Cams. So I looking forward to hear from you and be the first around here that runs a UDLunati ! :D
