Since my dash gas gague doesn't work I was considering a gague under the dash or in the trunk. (modified car) Where could I find a compatible gague/sending unit for a 69 Chevelle tank ?

you need to find out why your gauge doesnt work-are you missing the signal from the tank unit? unhook the sending unit wire back by the rear bumper and ground it, see what the gauge does
the gauge could also be missing 12v
if the gauge is bad, you can use an aftermarket gauge, 90 ohm and the stock sender in the tank
a lot of times, its a dirty or missing gnd from the sending unit-the gnd is usually back in front of the tank, screwed to the body
