Anybody ever use an Elgin cam in your engine? What did you think of it? I can get a discount on them through work, but I thought I would ask around first.
The cam is a solid grind 256/264 @ .050 and .537/.557 lift just if anyone is curious. It would be going in a 355.

I ran a hydraulic Elgin cam about 12 years ago in a 355. Worked OK but I think I would have made more power with a more agressive lobe design like comp, ultradyne etc. At that time Elgin cams were like the sealed power, mellings type grinds that were designed with mellow lift rates. Look at your advertised duration figures and compare them to the at .050 duration with other cams and you'll probably see the lift rates aren't as aggressive as comp, lunati, ultradyne. ive run that cam in three of my motors ,two sb400s and one 383 .that sam grind .it makes alot of power i can tell you that.i changed one out and put in a comp solid roller and the times at the track didnt improve at all for all the money that was spent on the roller. i believe that cam was desined for round track to come off the corners.i will tell you this you will be very pleased with it
